Level 2 - OCR Diploma In Sport at Canterbury College
This course is ideal for people wishing to progress onto a Level 3 study programme with aspirations to join the sports industry. The course is a combination of academic and practical sessions that will give you an insight into what's required to work in the sports industry. Sport is more than a job, it requires a different level of commitment, so from day one, these themes will be used to educate and prepare you for employment. You will be expected demonstrate professionalism during your time at college. You will also be expected to wear your sports department uniform to all sessions, in line with many sports careers and conduct yourself in a manner that represents the industry, this will include; respect, teamwork and discipline.
During your programme you will have the opportunity to learn about a selection of integral subjects including; anatomy and physiology, practical sport, sports coaching, fitness testing and training, sports psychology and other areas related to the sports industry. You will also gain skills in teamwork, communication, leadership, fitness, resilience, honesty, enthusiasm, commitment, discipline, respect as well as improving confidence.
If you start the course without GCSE C or above in Mathematics and/or English Language, you will have to complete a Maths and/or English qualification as part of your Study Programme. This will consist of up to three hours of classes for each subject per week.
4 Ds or 3s including English and Maths or a relevant full Level 1.
Through a combination of practical work, presentations, practical observations and a portfolio of assignments, case studies and tests. Because this course requires something different from you, we run a day assessment centre that all applicants must attend. The assessment centre will aim to test your suitability for the sports courses and give you an insight into the life of a sports student. We will be looking at your academic capabilities, teamwork, motivation & leadership skills and general qualities against those of the sports industry.
The assessment day will involve the following: taster sessions (pen & paper required), academic assessments including presentations and written tasks, practical sessions (PE kit required, as well as any medical support i.e. inhaler or medical note if needed), an individual interview (discussing your performance over the two days and your suitability for the course).
This course will support you in applying for a Level 3 study programme or support you with progressing into a career across a range of sports careers including working the sports centres, assisting sports coaches, working with children and assisting in the fitness industry.
