BTEC Diploma for IT Users (ITQ) (QCF) - Level 1 at Sheppey College

Course description

This is a practical introductory course that leads into a wide range of skills to support your entry to the world of work; this course is designed for students interested in IT, digital media production and gaming and is looking at their first steps into these subjects.

Course content

The BTEC Level 1 Diploma for IT Users includes a mandatory unit and a wide selection of optional units which cover a diverse range of standard professional computer software. Video, Computer Gaming, Digital Graphics & Audio are just some of the range of skills that will be developed on the course.

Improving Productivity Using IT is mandatory for the Level 1 qualification; all other units are selected from the wide range of units available within the qualification. All students will study Maths and English at an appropriate level. Employability skills are incorporated in to the qualification with up-to-date and current information about possible career paths.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade E-G (2 or 1) including - Functional Skills English and maths Entry 3 or GCSE Grade 1 or 2


Clear assessment: There are no tests or formal examinations except in English and Maths. The units are highly practical with the emphasis on 'doing' rather than 'writing about'.

Future opportunities

Students will develop skills in a wide range of industry standard software to enable progression on to Level 2 or employment. Other progression routes available to the learner on successful completion of a BTEC level 1 qualification can include.
