Adult Care CACHE Level 2 at Rotherham College

Course description

This course is designed to prepare students for employment within the health and social care sector and specialist areas of dementia. The course extends over one year and provides theoretical underpinning and skill competencies relating to roles such as:


  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings, domiciliary services, day services
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in community care, primary care, and other health environments
  • Support workers in supported living projects
  • Community-based care assistants/ support workers/key workers

All students will be required to undertake an external work placement to achieve this qualification and will require a DBS. The course comprises of 16 units covering a wide aspect of Health; Social Care (46 credits/equivalent to 4 x GCSE’s A* - C)


Section 1
  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Implement person centred care approaches in health social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • Handle information in health and social care settings

  • Dementia Awareness

Section 3
  • Understand and enable interaction and communication with individuals who have dementia
  • Support individuals to meet personal care needs
  • Understand and implement person centred assessment, planning, implementation and review
  • Move and position individuals in accordance with their plan of care
