Course description

FUTSAL Academy - Level 2 and 3 (Full Time)

These courses provide students with an opportunity to gain vocational qualifications in BTEC Sports and Exercise Science whilst playing in the Futsal League, in conjunction with Oldham Athletic Football Club. The course combines academic studies with 6 hours of Futsal, including match days  and training by UEFA coaches . As part of the Academy, students will have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications e.g. Level 1 Futsal Coaching and Level 1 Refereeing and First Aid. Sport - Level 2 (Full time - 1 year course)

A range of units will be covered including anatomy & physiology, fitness training, practical team sports and leading sports activities. You will also need to undertake and complete 35 hours work experience over the course of the year. You may also need an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check (criminal record check) if you are working with children or vulnerable adults in the workplace setting.

Sport Science - Level 3 (2 year course)

A range of units will be covered e.g. Anatomy for sport & exercise, physiology for sport & exercise, fitness training programmes, sports psychology and research methods. You will also need to undertake and complete 35 hours work experience over the course of the 2 years. You may also need an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check (criminal record check) if you are working with children or vulnerable adults in the workplace setting.

BTEC Football Education Programme - Manchester City (City in the Community programme) - Level 3

Consists of a range of different topics with a focus on football. The course prepares you for a career within the football industry and the units include: sports coaching, anatomy & physiology, fitness training, fitness testing, sports leadership, practical sports performance and sports psychology.  Classroom based learning will be applied to training sessions with UEFA A & B qualified coaches.

Course content

Entry requirements

Entry Level Programme: Skills for Life & Work

There are no qualifications required for these courses.

They are designed for students with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND).

 

Entry Level Programme: Skills & Employability

English & maths GCSE Grades G-U / 1 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3

 

GCSE Re-sit Study Programme

You will receive an offer of a place on the course subject to passing an English & maths assessment.

 

Vocational Level 1 Programme

English & maths GCSE Grades E-G/1- 2 or English & maths Functional Skills Entry Level 3.

 

Vocational Level 2 Programme

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including maths and English or a vocational qualification Level 1, plus GCSE grade D/3 in both maths and English. English & maths Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.

 

Vocational Level 3 Programme

Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C/4-9 (including maths and English) or a vocational qualification Level 2, plus GCSE grade C/4 in both maths and English

Assessment

FUTSAL Academy Level 2 and 3

The Level 2 course will be assessed via written work, practicals and presentations; two units will be assessed via external exams.

The Level 3 course will be assessed via written reports, posters, practicals, projects, presentations and work experience.

Level 2 Sport

The Level 2 course will be assessed via written work, practicals and presentations; two units will be assessed via external exams.

Level 3 Sport Science

The Level 3 course will be assessed via written reports, posters, practicals, projects, presentations and work experience.

BTEC Football Education Programme - Manchester City (City in the Community)

All units are internally assessed via written reports, posters, practicals, projects, presentations and work experience. Each  unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).

Financial information

Full Time

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

  • If you're aged 19 or over, you may need to pay tuition fees and exam fees, but many students will be eligible for discounts on these.
  • If you're 19 to 23 and do not already hold a full Level 2 (five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C/1-4; NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) or full Level 3 (an Access to Higher Education Course, BTEC National Certificate or Diploma, NVQ Level 3, or two or more A Levels or equivalent) qualification you will be exempt from paying tuition fee and exam fees if you undertake a full Level 2 or full Level 3 qualifications.    
  • If you are 19 and over, undertaking an Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 course you may be exempt from paying tuition and exam fees if you receive an active benefit (e.g. Universal Credit, Employment Support Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance) and are seeking work.
  • If you are aged 19 and over and study GCSE Maths or English and do not already hold a C grade/4 or higher in the subject that you are studying, you will be exempt from paying tuition fee and exam fees.

Manchester City Education projects including 'Premier League Works', ‘Built for Business’, ‘City Pathways’ and ‘City BTEC’ and all are designed to engage and inspire young people by providing qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment or training.

Level 2 Sport

Progression onto a variety of higher level courses, employment or apprenticeships.

Level 3 Sport Science

Progression onto a variety of higher education courses, including Foundation degrees at University Campus Oldham, employment or apprenticeships.
