Health and Care Occupations Level 1 Certificate at South Essex College

Course description

This qualification is aimed at people considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or children and young people.

You will develop knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in these sectors and the roles played by workers- from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. the course does not qualify learners to work directly with adults, children or young people but does provide a starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for them.  on completing the course learners who wish to pursue a career may be able to progress to other  level 2 qualifications such as the CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or the CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Childrens and Young People's Workforce.

  • introduction to communication in health & social care, early years and childcare
  • introductory awareness of health and safety in health & social care, early years and childcare

  • introductory awareness of person-centred support in health & social care, early years and childcare
  • introduction to the development of children and young people
  • introduction to dementia
  • job opportunities in health and social care
  • introductory awareness of loss and grief in health & social care, early years and childcare 

Entry requirements

  • demonstrate the ability to work at level one in maths and English in an assessment
  • successful attendance at transition event

    • September 2014 sees the grand unveiling of a new £45 million Thurrock Campus in Grays which will include restaurants, health facilities, shops and an advice centre. There will also be specialist workshop and studio spaces linked to courses for technology, media and creative arts, and facilities for art, design, logistics, engineering and IT courses.
