General Patisserie and Confectionery Certificate Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

To take your cake baking, decorating and general dessert making skills to the next level, alongside refining your precision and technique, this Level 3 Certificate in General Patisserie and Confectionary will help you learn everything you need.
As well as hot and cold desserts, you’ll be moving on to look at how frozen desserts are made, as well as advancing your skills with fermented dough and batter products. You’ll develop your technique even further with the creation of a variety of biscuits, cakes and sponges.
You’ll also learn about and make a variety of Petits Fours, enhancing the skills required for the modern, professional kitchen. A final part of the course will see you producing display pieces and decorative items that you can put your own style and passion into.

Entry requirements

Alongside your continued passion for working in the hospitality industry with patisserie and confectionary, you should also have a previous Level 2 qualification in either the subject specifically, or in general professional cookery.


To check you’re developing the skills and expertise necessary for this ABC Level 3 Certificate, you’ll be assessed through a combination of both practical assessments in the kitchen and theory-based written tasks to complement your portfolio.

Future opportunities

If you want to progress from a Level 3 Certificate to a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Patisserie and Confectionary with us at The Manchester College, all you’ll need to do is add three more units to the six that make up this qualification.
The skills and knowledge you learn on this course will help you succeed in the working world, and you could find yourself as a pastry chef in a professional kitchen or running your own cake shop in a local town. There are a huge number of roles available across a number of areas, and you’ll be able to enjoy a successful career in the hospitality and catering industry.

Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
