Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry Level 3 at East Sussex College

Course description

This course has been added to our suite of qualifications in response to industry and student-led demand for practical training in make-up and techniques for the theatre, film, television and photographic arena. On this course you will explore and develop skills in media make-up, camouflage make-up, fashion and photographic makeup, applying prosthetic pieces, applying air-brush make-up to the face and designing and applying face and body paint. You will need to be prepared to work in and out of class to build a portfolio of your work. You will develop your own portfolio and creative ideas supported by guest speakers, industry experts and a visit to a professional show in London. You will have the opportunity to take part in competitions and showcase your skills at the college Hair and Beauty Show.These are compulsory areas: • Cutting and styling techniques for performers • Avant-Garde hair and make-up • Creative make-up design for productions and industry demands • Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps • Special effects make-up • Create, dress and fit facial postiche • Body art for competition Optional areas include: • Camouflage make-up • Media make-up blogging • Create, cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps

You will need to meet our standard entry requirements.

There are no subject specific entry criteria for this course.

Assessment

Assignments, projects, written and observed practical work. You will be required to produce a portfolio of practical examples and reference material.

Future opportunities

This course can provide a pathway to employment in a related industry such as fashion, TV, film, print media, retail or as a freelance make-up artist. Alternatively it could lead to Higher Education.
