Creative Media Production Technology – Digital Design and Communication Extended Diploma 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

If you are looking for a career in the creative and digital sector then this course will give you the skills you'll need to succeed. The skills covered by the course have been chosen to reflect the demands of working in digital design and communication. We've put employment-focused skills at the heart of the course so you can confidently apply for creative and production jobs straight after leaving College.
The course is partnership with Creative Cow, an independent creative agency based in The Sharp Project, Manchester. Creative Cow was established on a true belief in quality, innovation and client focus for all projects, whether printed, digital or media driven. Creative Cow also deal with advertising, branding, motion graphics, CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and social design.

Entry requirements

To enrol on this course, you’ll need to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (grade A-C), including English Language. Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 2 vocational qualification with Functional Skills English Language at grade C or above.
You should be between 16-18 years old too, have good communication skills, be able to work individually and as part of a team, with a strong interest in creative media or a portfolio that illustrates your interest.

The course is assessed through written reports, blogs and diaries, sketchbooks, portfolio development, image creation, design solutions, audio-visual recordings, one to one feedback and interviews.
There are no formal examinations connected to this course. Students overall grade will come from the final project assessed by tutors and moderated by the exam board at the end of each year.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this Creative Media Production and Technology Extended Diploma Level 3 course can lead you to a wide range of higher education courses, foundation degrees and BA degrees. You may also be able to enter employment directly or join an apprenticeship or higher apprenticeship scheme.

      Openshaw is a suburb of east Manchester, a short bus ride from Manchester’s city centre. Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
