Diploma in professional cookery Technical Level Level 2 at The Manchester College

Course description

This course is a great starting point if you have an interest in working in hospitality and want to develop your skills to work effectively as a junior or commis chef. This course will help students build the foundations of their knowledge in a variety of areas including planning and preparing for service, menu planning and costing, working with a variety of foods including meat, seafood, vegetable dishes, stocks and soups, pastry and bakery products, desserts, biscuits, cakes and sponges as well as food and safety hygiene in the kitchen.

Entry requirements

Students should have a Level 1 in Professional cookery or experience working in the hospitality and catering sector and a level 2 qualification in English and Math. Students should have a passion for the hospitality industry.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed through a variety of practical and written assessments giving you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have developed.

Financial information

Future opportunities

Once you’ve completed this Level 2 course you’ll have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 qualification in either Advanced Professional Cookery or Professional Patisserie and Confectionery, or move into work in the hospitality industry.
All these skills will help you to excel in a career in the hospitality and catering industry. You may find yourself working in hotels and restaurants, or even running your own professional kitchen or bakery.

      Openshaw is a suburb of east Manchester, a short bus ride from Manchester’s city centre. Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
