Hair and Beauty Skills Diploma (14-19) Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

Designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the hair and beauty industry by teaching you the skills and techniques to look after yourself, this Entry Level Diploma is an ideal place to begin for anyone who wants to find out what the industry is all about. 

While the award and certificate qualifications in this subject let you choose from a variety of topics, to complete the diploma you’ll need to take every unit on the course. You’ll learn how to care for your own skin, your hands and your feet, as well as develop the necessary skills to apply your own make-up and paint your own nails. Practicing on yourself, you’ll focus on hair care (including shampooing, conditioning and blow-drying) and personal hygiene. 

You’ll be learning the techniques and knowledge that are commonplace in the industry, developing an understanding of the tools, equipment and products used. With a good introduction to what it’s like working in this industry, you’ll be laying the groundwork for a future successful career in hair and beauty.

Throughout this whole diploma, you’ll be assessed at regular intervals in a variety of different ways, to check your skills and techniques are all developing correctly. This will include a combination of practical assignments, observations, written tests and course work.

Future opportunities

After you’ve completed this Entry Level Diploma, you’ll have the skills and knowledge needed to continue onto a Level 1 course in Hair and Beauty Skills and develop your techniques even further. 

You’ll be learning everything you need for a successful career, on the path to a number of different roles in the hair and beauty sector.

    • Northenden Campus is a large, welcoming campus, offering a wide range of courses for school leavers, apprentices, adults and university-level students.       Local area

      Northenden is a suburb of south Manchester. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk from the campus in central Northenden. There are also a small supermarket and shops closer to the campus. Northenden is surrounded by green space. The campus is minutes away from Gib Lane Wood and Wythenshawe Park which includes a community farm. It is also close to the Mersey Valley nature reserve; a riverside walk through miles of countryside and parkland.
