Information Technology DiDA at Bebington High Sports College
DiDA is a suite of three modular qualifications: the Award in Digital Applications (AiDA), equivalent to one GCSE; the Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA), equivalent to two GCSEs; and the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA), equivalent to four GCSEs. Each qualification can be achieved at Level 1 or Level 2. DiDA qualifications are designed to stimulate students` creativity and reward purposeful application of digital tools.
DiDA offers an exciting, credible replacement for GNVQ Intermediate ICT. It also provides greater flexibility, enabling centres to tailor-make courses to meet their students` needs.
DiDA was designed to dovetail with the Key Stage 3 ICT Strategy and has been mapped against the National Curriculum Programme of Study for ICT. Like the Programme of Study, DiDA adopts a process-driven approach, focussing on the use of digital tools to find things out, develop ideas and make things happen, exchange and share information and review, modify and evaluate work. Some schools are considering using AiDA to accredit their students ICT achievements in Key Stage 3.
There are currently four DiDA units available:
- Using ICT
- ICT in Enterprise.
To gain AiDA students must achieve Unit 1: Using ICT. To gain CiDA students must achieve Unit 1 plus one other unit. To gain DiDA students must achieve Unit 1 plus three other units. We plan to introduce more units in future years.
This new course is the equivalent of 4 GCSE's and will provide you with the opportunity to;
8enhance creativity and communication;
8equip you with many of the skills that you will need in the workplace or in further
8education or training;
8develop project management skills;
8free your work from paper, making it organised, searchable, dynamic and transportable;
8reflect critically on your own and others' use of digital applications.
You should ideally have achieved a grade A* - C pass in GCSE ICT or 5 GCSE passes at grades A* - C in other subjects and be interested in finding out about and using computer systems.
DiDA is paperless. There are no examinations. Instead, students complete a Summative Project Brief (SPB) set by Edexcel for each unit. They present their evidence in an e-portfolio, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
The DiDA qualification prepares students for the real world of work or further education. It has been designed to stimulate students' creativity and develop real-world, practical skills that will motivate learning across a wide range of subjects. The DiDA qualification will develop students' ability to select and use digital applications appropriately and produce high quality outcomes; It forms an excellent basis for further study of ICT a AS and A2 level. ICT skills and knowledge are both highly valued by prospective employers. During the course you will also develop project and time management skills and gain a valuable insight into how a range of organisations operate.
