Welcome to Sixth Form
We are a large, progressive and inclusive Sixth Form, which means that we can offer you a wide range of courses to choose from.
We have notable success every year with individual students excelling themselves. We were thrilled with our results again this year which show that we continue to be in the top 10% of all sixth forms in the country in terms of 'value added'. This means that our students can access the best courses at the top universities. For example, we are very proud to have students from Allerton Grange Sixth form studying a huge range of subjects including and law, pharmacy and history, biomedical science, biochemistry and genetics, civil engineering, architectural design and technology, French, Spanish, accountancy and business. We have students at Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and many other excellent institutions.
While you are in the Sixth Form, you will be treated as a young adult and given the rights and responsibilities associated with your status. You will be valued as a person, with your own individual needs being taken into account.
If you would like to make a fresh start or if you are coming from our Year 11, you are going to find a warm welcome from both the staff and other students. These are the best years of your school life and will set you up for a successful future.
Curriculum Lead for Sixth Form
Entry requirements for Sixth Form
Applications are considered on an individual basis but subject areas have their own entry requirements.
As a guide, you would normally be expected to have achieved a minimum of the following:
For level 3 courses – a good range of GCSEs from grade 4 - 9 including a grade 4 in English and Maths or the equivalent at BTEC level.
For level 2 courses 2 grade 3's at GCSE
Sixth Form students enjoy their own common room and two completely dedicated study rooms with computers that are available for their sole use.
Allerton Grange is rightly able to boast about the ICT facilities that are available to students and the fabulous building means that the learning environment is excellent.
We have excellent sports facilities which include a massive sports hall with a wide variety of sport pitches. There is a climbing wall and a gym with up to date equipment that students are entitled to use at no charge.
Music facilities are extensive. There is a wide range of ICT equipment which means that making and recording music as well as being involved in music technology is available for students with a creative side.
Technology facilities are excellent. The technology department have up to date machines for creating and designing real products and learning how to use machines that are usually only found on the shop floor.
The easiest way to see all of this is to come on a visit. We will be delighted to see you!
You are invited to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 1 November 2017 from 6.00pm until 8.00pm
You will follow a comprehensive tutorial programme led by your form tutor.
In Year 12, areas you will cover in your tutorials include strategies for studying (like how to manage your time!), drug issues, AIDS, families and relationships and a thorough and supportive careers programme. Visiting speakers will give us all food for thought, with talks from organisations like VSO and Gap year speakers.
In Year 13, the careers programme started in Year 12 will be continued. You will be offered a choice of sports along with cooking and budgeting. Time will also be spent on preparing for life after the sixth form, with a particular focus on helping you to apply for university. Revision skills will also be part of the programme.
Monitoring of Academic Progress
Our aim is for you to achieve your potential. To ensure this, we monitor your progress closely. From the first day of enrolment, you will be set minimum target grades for your A levels or one year course. These grades will be set using a nationally recognised scheme called Level 3 Value Added. We will then review your progress on a regular basis.
Last year, 90% of our students went on to study in higher education. With our Sixth From being in the top 25% of Sixth Froms in the country, this means that they are most likely to go to a university of their choice and take the course that best suits their career plans.
