Welcome to Nacro Training

We have over 30 years’ experience in creating opportunities for learning and getting people into work across England and Wales and are committed to developing and delivering services dedicated to lifelong learning which meet the diverse needs of our service users. With over 200 projects delivered over 144 sites and training facilities we provided training for 12,500 people nationally last year.

In partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies and local employers, we offer engaging and unique education and training services from our training centre on Meanwood Road. Focussing on vocational learning our mission is to raise the achievement standards and employment opportunities of our learners through specifically tailored work-based learning courses.

We hold the Matrix Award (the national quality standard for information, advice and guidance services for young people) and are recognised as an Investor in People.

About us

Young people who have been disengaged from learning are one of society’s most marginalised and disadvantaged groups. They often face a range of problems that significantly undermine their educational experiences and their ability to sustain any interest in learning and self-development.

Because of this we aim to give all young people a positive stake in society by providing education and training opportunities aimed specifically at their needs.

Nacro values the diverse nature of its staff and of those using its services. But our commitment to equality involves much more than positive action to promote equality of opportunity and to eradicate discrimination.

Facilities available

Our Motor Vehicle Studies Department is designed to match the workplace as closely as possible with industry standard equipment and tools.Learners receive training that is identical to a real working garage, in a relaxed and safe enviroment. We also have a dedicated IT Suite and relaxing areas for young people to take a rest from learning.

Once learners gain the necessary tool skills they are supported into one of our range of placements where they learn the trade first hand.

We offer a sports coaching qualification which assists young people in progressing into the sports industry and maintains level of fitness for those interested in public services or a forces career.

The course is made up fitness training, health and nutrition, team and confidence building, Maths, English and IT, sports coaching units and residentials. All kit is provided and young people get free access to Exercise For Less during set times.

We are now happy to introduce our new Catering and Hospitality course where you will learn the skills and qualifications needed to start a career in catering or hospitality industry from a real-life working canteen.

We also offer a Warehousing and Logistics course which is a fantastic route into full time employment. Learners can choose to enter the study programme 30 week course or opt for a shorter Traineeship programme which can link to an apprenticship.

Additional support

Here at Nacro we aim to engage young people with excellent work-related learning courses tailored to meet both their educational and personal needs.

To support this group sizes are never more than eight learners to every trainer to ensure each young person gets the attention and support they need to learn and progress. Supporting this are a bank of additional learning support staff who provide ono-to-one training and provide access to external learning specialists.

All learners are targeted in uplifting their literacy and numeracy by at least one level whilst on programme and excellent work preparation classes are provided.

Courses are designed with an in-built progression route onto our post 16 training programmes where learners can carry on working towards higher level qualifications in surroundings that are familiar to them. Here learners will get the chance to utilise the skills learned in a real working garage on one of our many placements.

We bring in other activities to re-engage young people in learning and to address the barriers that may be preventing them from succeeding in education, training or work. We have a trained Youth Coach to support young people in their personal life so they can reach their full potential. Opportunities offered include sporting and recreational activities and volunteering.
