Welcome to St Chads Catholic and Church of England High School

Welcome to St Chad’s Catholic Language College. As a Catholic Christian 6th Form we aim to realise the full potential of our students in an environment rooted in Gospel values. We are situated on the edge of the bus route and are within easy reach of all areas of Runcorn.

As a specialist Language College and a centre of excellence for Modern Foreign Languages we provide all the Languages provision for Halton and the opportunities and experiences that go with this status. We work in partnership with the local college to ensure that all students have access to a wide variety of courses. We have provided high quality programmes for sixth form students for over 30 years and offer a range of AS, A2 and vocational BTEC qualification.

Opportunities are also available to improve on GCSE English and Mathematics grades. The sixth form is small and provides an alternative for students who would benefit from a smaller more personalised learning environment. Beside your academic studies you will follow an enrichment programme. This includes choosing from a range of experiences including the study of a modern foreign language, computer courses, PE or achieving the Sports leaders or the Millennium Volunteers award. There are a variety of opportunities outside of the classroom including residential retreats and visits. Through our strong links with the HSBC bank a number of students each year have the opportunity of taking part in a Tall Ships Challenge.

About us

Many of our students have progressed to universities including Oxbridge and are now successful in a range of occupational areas. Our School Mission emphasises our commitment to ensuring that all students have equal value and are helped to achieve their potential. In a school setting we make use of the wider school context to encourage students to take on responsibilities and leadership roles by working with our younger pupils in a variety of ways.Comments from the OFSTED inspection in 2006 stated that we are ‘a good school with many outstanding features’. The latest Denominational Inspection in February 2007 we were graded as ‘Outstanding.’ We welcome students from all other institutions who accept the Christian ethos of our sixth form community. We believe our identity offers a unique experience for our students!

Facilities available

We have modern facilities and are nearing the completion of phase one of a new £2million build, which will ensure that we continue to provide a high quality working environment with up to date equipment and resources. There are two further planned building programmes that will provide state- of- the art facilities for our students. You will have access to all of the resources you need to ensure that you fulfil the expectations we have of you. There is a well resourced Learning centre and sixth form work area for your use. You will also have access to the local City Learning Centre.

Additional support

Many students will be entitled to an Educational Maintenance Allowance provided they meet the conditions of our school contract to help with the financial cost of your Post 16 studies. Classes are smaller than those at a college so you will be guaranteed individual attention and tutorials with academic staff .To ensure you achieve your potential your parents or guardian will also be kept well informed of your progress through regular communication and opportunities to attend parents’ information evenings. You will be a member of a tutor group who meet at regular times during the week. Your personal tutor will be there to support you and give you comprehensive and impartial advice about many aspects of school life including advice on post 18 choices including gaining employment and applying to Higher Education. As part of the tutorial sessions you will have a number of days set aside each year to take part in personal health and social education programmes. All students in the sixth form will have access to the connexions service. Learning mentors, a health adviser and Chaplain will also be available if more focused work is required.
