Welcome to Strood Academy

Strood Academy is an all ability school with a growing and exciting 6th form. We offer a range of courses at Level 3, including A levels and vocational courses, and for students who have not yet achieved 5 good GCSEs we offer a good choice of level 2 courses. In 2012 we achieved a 98% pass rate with 26* of these grades being A*-B.

The 6th form have always played a key role within the school community: in addition to the senior student positions, many 6th formers act as learning mentors to younger students and every 6th form student has the opportunity to be involved in community activities.  As well as setting rigorous targets for 6th form students and assessing their progress every 6 weeks, we often take time to do activities as a whole group.

Each term there is a special event within the school day for the whole 6th form, examples include the big quiz, the talent show, and valentine‚Äôs karaoke!  Outside of the school curriculum, in term 1 we go to Thorpe Park, in term 2 there is a theatre trip and near Easter there is the annual trip to New York.  Many subjects arrange visits and activities to support their courses, including the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Our new building opened in September 2012, students have their own study centre which has been designed and created by the students.   This has tables to work at, comfy chairs for reading, and a conference area.  The 6th form also have access to wireless laptops which can be used anywhere in the school for personal study.

Many of our 6th form students really enjoy the smaller teaching groups, and the support which staff give.  We make good use of KMPF and Connexions to support students through their studies, and provide guidance for the university application process including visits to universities and visiting speakers.
