Welcome to Chatham Grammar School for Boys
Chatham Boys Grammar School is a boys' 11 - 18 selective school with a co-educational sixth form. Chatham Grammar School for Boys has a medium sized sixth form offering a wide variety of A level courses. We provide individual advice for all our students about their choice of courses and post A-Level options. CGSB students are able to choose from a wide level of A-Level courses and also benefit from a variety of enrichment courses including the Extended Project. Clubs, societies, sporting, musical and cultural experiences abound. All teachers are highly qualified and specialise in their subject areas. They provide considerablesupport out of lessons, after school and during some of the holiday periods to ensure that students are as well prepared as possible for examinations. We look forward to meeting you at our open evening on Thursday 26 November from 5.30 -9.00pm, where you will have the opportunity to meet with subject leaders, discuss potential career and higher education pathways and also speak to current students.
Chatham Grammar School for Boys is situated on the southern side of Chatham by the A230 Maidstone Road. It occupies an attractive half-timbered black and white building, formerly a manor house owned by George Winch, a one time Mayor of Chatham, and part of his estate known as Holcombe.
The majority of students who join the school in Year 7 or during Key Stages 3 or 4 remain with the school for their Sixth Form studies. However, a large number of studentsfrom other local schools join CGSB each year in Year 12, many of them girls. These students tell us that their reasons for joing CGSB inlcude such things as the friendliness and helpfulness of staff, the warm welcome they receive from existing CGSB students, and the wide variety of subjects that are on offer.
A-Level results have been steadily improving for a number of years and over 50% of grades in 2014 were grade A* - B, with many students going on to top univeristies including Oxford and Cambridge. The teachers at CGSB are well qualified and dedicated to their students often providing considerable support outwith the normal school day. We do expect our students to work hard and will very quickly tell you if we think you are not working hard enough - but would you want us to do anything less?
