Welcome to Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School

Message from the Headteacher

I am very pleased that you are considering Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School for your sixth form education. When you embark upon sixth form study, you begin an exciting but demanding journey, a journey on which we would be honoured to join you.

In order to succeed in an increasingly complex and competitive world, young people need academic qualifications of the highest order, as well as a strongly developed sense of resilience, resourcefulness, and flexibility. However, although your academic progress is of the utmost importance, we at the Math believe that education is about more than gaining qualifications: it's about building a better future for yourself and your community.

We want our sixth formers to go on to become:

CONFIDENT, SUCCESSFUL, HAPPY

members of society as well as leaders in their chosen fields. I hope that after reading this prospectus, you will have a better idea as to why we take such enormous pride in our establishment.

Mr E Hodges- Headteacher

About us

The Maths was designated a Specialist School in Mathematics and Computing in September 2002 – one of the first twelve such schools in the country.  Our Specialism in Humanities was awarded in 2006.

This has enabled us to build on existing strengths in Mathematics and to put Information and Communications Technology at the heart of our teaching and learning With modern facilities available to pupils throughout and beyond the working day and a commitment to partnership working with other schools and the wider community, the Math has become a major centre of learning.

The Medway Further Mathematics Centre has been established at the School providing Advanced Study opportunities for senior students throughout the area.

Students of the Math should leave school feeling valued, prepared for rich and fulfilling working and social lives and able to take leading roles in society as responsible citizens.

Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School is a community of people which encourages mutual respect and care for others irrespective of gender, race and class.
