Welcome to The Robert Napier School
Year 11 Sixth Form Open Evening - Thursday 19th November, 6 - 8pm
Welcome to the Robert Napier School Sixth Form. Our sixth form students are a highly valued and important part of our school community. We look to them to be leaders and role models, demonstrating excellence in all they do. We know that choosing where and what to study after GCSEs is a very big decision and we are therefore proud to offer our students the opportunity to study in a mature and supportive environment with dedicated specialist teachers. Our sixth form students also benefit from a dedicated study area, well-equipped with high quality IT facilities. When our sixth form students wish to relax, they are welcome to use the Costa Coffee outlet located in the Dining Room while enjoying the comfortable seating area reserved specifically for sixth form use.
Advanced level study brings new challenges and expectations with a greater focus on independent learning and wider reading. We offer personalised support to each student through the Sixth Form Leadership Team as well as through class teachers, tutors and pastoral teams to ensure that each student is equipped and able to meet those challenges head on.
As well as supporting our students through their academic journey, we also offer high quality support with careers, offering advice and guidance on the next steps that our students take. Whether our students progress to higher education, apprenticeships or employment we help them to develop the skills and experience that will allow them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
I sincerely hope that you choose to continue your academic journey with us.
Rebecca Brattle Director of Sixth Form Innovation and Quality
The Robert Napier Sixth Form offers students the chance to study for Advanced Level subjects in a professional and mature environment. As senior students, our Sixth Form are encouraged to pursue positions of responsibility within school ranging from Head Boy and Head Girl posts to Senior Prefects, Peer Mentors and Academic Mentors. We strongly believe in offering students the best opportunities to develop a range of skills and we recognise that these positions of responsibility, alongside other extra-curricular and super-curricular activities, will enable students to stand out from the crowd when making their next steps beyond the Sixth Form.
Students in our Sixth Form benefit from a new Sixth Form Study Centre as well as being able to make use of a range of study venues around the school site. This year we are also delighted to offer access to a dedicated Sixth Form area in our Dining Room, linked to our new Costa Coffee facility. All students are given full access to ICT Facilities to support learning both in and out of the classroom.
We also operate a Bring-Your-Own-Device policy whereby students can use their own electronic device to complete work while making use of the school WiFi facility. This has proven invaluable in supporting students with their studies.
We are fortunate to participate in a Sixth Form partnership with other schools in the local area. Through this partnership we are able to offer an even broader selection of Advanced Level subjects to our students, while also forging strong links with students and staff in other schools.
Each Sixth Form student is allocated to a vertical tutor group where they will benefit from the support of a dedicated tutor as well as developing their own skills of mentoring with students in lower years. This tutor will remain with you throughout your time in the Sixth Form and, as the member of staff who knows you best, will be responsible for writing your reference in Year 13, whether for UCAS, employment or an apprenticeship.
The Sixth Form Leadership Team is on hand to support each student, whether academically or pastorally, and will endeavour to ensure each student has an enjoyable and successful time in the Sixth Form. In order to best prepare students for their next steps after Sixth Form, the Leadership Team will support students in making applications to UCAS and apprenticeships, offering guidance on writing personal statements and how to obtain work experience to support applications. We will also provide opportunities to hear from a range of outside experts looking at universities, apprenticeships and employment as well as arranging visits to universities both locally and further afield.
Year after year we are happy to celebrate our leavers’ successes with 75% of students applying to university in 2014 securing a place at their university of choice. We have seen increasing numbers of students applying to and obtaining places at Russell Group and other top universities at varying locations around the country and for a broad range of degree programmes such as Law, Podiatry, Psychology, History, International Relations, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Advertising and Marketing, Fashion Design and Scenic Arts.
A number of other students successfully secured employment or exciting positions within Higher Level Apprenticeships. We regularly hear from a number of our alumni who are currently at university or in employment and we are pleased to be able to utilise their expertise and experiences to offer support to our current Sixth Form students. We are looking to build on these successes in the coming years by supporting all students in pursuing their dream careers.
