About us

Joining the Sixth Form at Kettering Buccleuch Academy is a key step towards an exciting and rewarding future.  This is the time in a young person’s life when it is possible to control your own future; a time to grasp opportunities and to fulfil career aspirations.  It is also a time to take on greater responsibility and demonstrate growing maturity and capabilities.

On offer are a range of traditional and vocational courses.  On entering the Sixth Form, you will be treated as an individual with an individual’s needs.  Whether you aspire to a place within higher education or to eventually enter the world of work and further training, subject and tutorial staff will endeavour to support and advise you in selecting a demanding yet suitable programme of study at a level that is appropriate for you.  In all subjects you will be set targets and your personal tutor will meet with you on a regular one-to-one basis to ensure that you are on track for success.  Support will always be offered should difficulties occur.

As a member of the Sixth Form, we will encourage you to become markedly more responsible for your learning and provide you with the ‘tools’ to work with.  Quite apart from the most exciting and challenging time in your life so far and the fact that you are likely to make lifelong friendships and have a great deal of fun, a successful Sixth Form experience will undoubtedly lead to enhanced job prospects, (hopefully with subsequent enhanced promotion prospects), and the opportunity to progress on to HND and degree courses.

It is a gratifying fact that the vast majority of those within the Sixth Form see higher education as a natural progression and are therefore determined to make a life-changing investment in their futures.

In the Sixth Form, we keep class sizes small; this means our teachers are able to give students individual help and attention so that they can achieve their fullest potential.

Facilities available

In addition to excellent tuition, you will have exclusive access to a dedicated study centre equipped with the most up-to-date ICT equipment and unrestricted access to the academy’s learning resource centre with its ICT and multimedia facilities.  For those moments of relaxation, we provide a lounge area with BBC News 24, daily newspapers and drinks vending machines.  Sport is one of Kettering Buccleuch Academy’s specialisms and you will be encouraged to take part in either competitive sport or to simply enhance your fitness, with the brand new fitness suite now available for use.

Additional support

Students are fully supported in making the transition from GCSE to the next level.  Each Sixth Former has a personal mentor with whom they meet regularly on a one-to-one basis to discuss any difficulties they may have and their future plans.
