Welcome to Bradfield School

Bradfield School is an excellent school that provides a high standard of education and care to the children entrusted to us. Our aim is that every child should be enabled to reach the maximum of their potential, and we should all strive to ensure that every child is happy to come to school every day.

Bradfield School’s ethos is that all students should be valued equally and therefore, whilst it is important to both students and parents that the very best examination results be achieved, it is similarly important that opportunities for success and enrichment are created for everyone, and that these successes are recognised, valued and used to enhance student self-esteem

Our approach to behaviour and discipline, which are essential to create the optimum learning environment, emanates from these same principles: students must be given opportunities to take responsibility; mutual respect should be an expectation; and learning and the evaluation of its success has to be a process shared by teachers and students.

The need for high quality education is driven by the fact that the students we teach have only one chance at their education, and it is therefore mandatory that we get it right first time. This requires us to provide an environment in which every student achieves to the maximum of their potential; every student has access to a broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum; everyone has the chance to make a positive contribution to school life; every person involved in the system feels valued; students become critical and active members of society; basic human virtues such as tolerance and equality are instilled and promoted, and become the basis for future conduct; a lifelong intellectual curiosity is inspired.

Facilities available

We are looking forward to being fully rebuilt in 2013 as part of Sheffield’s commitment to Building Schools for the Future..

We are privileged to have a beautiful location high up on the edge of open countryside. Our environment is part of what makes the school a special place. Our location is also a reason why environmental responsibility and alternative energy form a large part of our engineering bid.

We have very good ICT facilities for students. The Library and a number of ICT rooms are always available at social time for students to print off work or access the Internet. We have very strict rules and systems for ensuring the Internet is not used inappropriately. Every classroom in school has an interactive whiteboard which enables us to use the most up to date teaching resources to enhance students’ learning.

A wide range of enrichment activities are available in PE despite our limited resources. Students have access to a climbing wall, a range of sports and clubs, including rugby, cheerleading, trampolining, badminton, and basketball.

Additional support

Careers Education

Careers education and guidance are part of the curriculum in every year. It is introduced as part of the Citizenship programme in Year 7 and Year 8. In Years 9, 10 and 11 there are key inputs as part of the Options and Careers programmes.

We aim to ensure that parents and students receive support and advice at key decision making points and involve the Sheffield Futures, employers and staff who work in further education in this provision.

Particular care is taken to ensure that students give careful consideration to all the options which are open to them when they leave Bradfield School. Information and help is given at this stage through: a Careers Convention which brings together students, parents and Post-16 providers to discuss and explore the options available; a parents’ evening; citizenship sessions; form tutor time; visits to tertiary education establishments, training and work places and exhibitions. We also provide guidance and support to both students and parents in the use of UCAS Progress, the on-line system used to access post-16 courses.

In addition to this arrangements will be made for 6th form students to access careers support
