Welcome to Northern Racing College
The Northern Racing College 12-week Foundation Course is designed for people both with experience or no previous equine experience.
During the Foundation Course students complete a Level 1 Doploma in Horsecare and commence an Apprenticehip, including a Level 2 Diploma in Racehorse Care.
Upon successful completion of the Foundation Course students are found employment with a licensed racehorse trainer in the U.K. where they continue working towards their qualification whilst earning a salary.
Upon completion of the Apprenticeship programme students can commence the Advanced Apprenticeship, including an Level 3 Diploma in Racehorse Care and Management. This qualification is largely work based and therefore completed at the students place of work.
Our 12 week courses are available on the following dates:
Starting on the 15 February 2013 for 12 weeks until 10 May 2013
Starting on the 28 March 2013 for 12 weeks until 21 June 2013
Starting on the 10 May 2013 for 12 weeks until 2 August 2013
Starting on the 21 June 2013 for 12 weeks until 13 September 2013
Starting on the 2 August 2013 for 12 weeks until 25 october 2013
Starting on the 13 September 2013 for 12 weeks until 6 December 2013
Starting on the 25 October 2013 for 12 weeks until 17 January 2014
Starting on 6 December 2013 for 12 weeks until 28 February 2014

The Northern Racing College is one of two training providers in the U.K. who specialise in training people who wish to pursue a career in the horseracing industry.
The Foundation Course is fully funded for EU citizens. To put it another way students receive tuition, accommodation and food free of charge.

Taster Days are held on the last Friday of every month (except December).
Taster Days provide potential students, their parents/guardians and careers advisors with the chance to observe a training day at the College.

Students are supported throughout their training programmes by experienced staff.
Whilst a number of our students obtain a jockeys licence not all students have the desire to ride in races, preferring to care for the horses, to aspire to become travelling head grooms, head grooms and racehorse trainers.
Hayley Turner, Dominic Elsworth, David Allan and Philip Makin are four of our leading lights on the racecourse, although the list could go on and on.
