Welcome to Carr Manor Community School, Specialist Sports College
Welcome to Carr Manor Community School, Specialist Sports College. In October 2011 we were inspected by Ofsted and judged to be a 'Good school with outstanding features.' This September (2012), we expanded with a new primary phase building and established the first through school (4-18) in the city. At Carr Manor we pride ourselves on providing a range of support to help each pupil be safe, happy and develop into responsible, self-motivated young adults who want to achieve and be successful.
As a school we have three key values, which are to:
- Know our children well
- be Partners in Learning
- and to Enjoy and Achieve
At Post 16, the school specialises in Level 3 vocational programmes in Sport and Performing Arts where pupils have had considerable success in recent years. In 2012, the school established a Football Academy on-site in partnership with Guiseley Football Club. The Academy boys study Level 3 Sport, whilst at the same time, receiving football coaching, training and competing in a programme of cup and league fixtures.
The school is forward thinking and always looking for ways to develop partnerships with other Post 16 providers and seeking out opportunities to enhance the learning and progression of our pupils. Our 'Hub' is a base where pupils can seek information, advice and guidance and work independently. In addition to the Level 3 specialism, pupils can continue with their English and Maths to reach a C grade and all are expected to participate in a university progression module.
Learners are encouraged to identify and develop the skills which will help them 'move on' to their next level, be that university, employment or further training.
All Post 16 pupils take a full and active part across the school, participating in the Coaching programme, leading activities with younger pupils and given responsibilities to extend their skills profile.
We have a dedicated Sixth Form area within the staff block which includes dedicated teaching space and common room.
The 11-18 part of the school opened in 2006 with new sporting facilities, including a fitness suite, large sports hall, a climbing wall and extensive outside areas and pitches.
Performing Arts use the theatre, drama/ dance studio spaces and dedicated Performing Arts classroom. The extension to the scool in 2012 provides additional large spaces for performance practice and production.
Pupils are allocated a Coach who will support their progress throughout the Post 16 course and be the first point of contact. The 'Hub' team will be on hand to offer more specialist advice for your progression to the next phase.
