Welcome to Dixons City Academy
Dixons City Academy is a centre of educational excellence serving the whole community of Bradford. Our students meet and work together in a well-ordered and harmonious community drawn from all cultures and backgrounds city-wide. We believe that our students
have a key role to play in the economic development
and social regeneration of our city in the next decade and beyond.
Dixons is a high-performing school which takes students of all abilities. Our success is built on the traditional values of effort and hard work in a modern, hi-tech learning environment. We are a genuine learning community in which all students are challenged and stimulated, cared for and supported. Our performance is regularly rated among the top ten state schools nationally.

Brief History
Opening in 1990 as one of only fifteen City Technology Colleges across the country, Dixons has been at the forefront of the Specialist Schools movement which now accounts for 85% of all secondary schools. As a City Academy from September 2005, we now work much more closely with the Local Authority and other local schools, while retaining our independence and our own unique culture.
Our Commitment to Individual Achievement
Dixons is committed to the individual achievement of each student. We work hard to make a success of the three-way partnership between the school, the student and the family. Students here are closely monitored while enjoying the freedom to develop as young adults and to take increasing responsibility for their own lives. Our students share a strong sense of identity and ethos, nurtured by high-quality tutorial, guidance and personal development. Every year over 90% of a totally mixed ability intake gain at least 5 top grades at GCSE. In 2005 and 2006 Dixons was in the top 10 schools in the country for GCSE results. Dixons is also in the top 200 state schools for A Level results.
We provide a high-quality, flexible learning environment where students are expected to take an active role in their learning; they work alongside staff in setting and meeting inspirational targets. As a Training School, we invest heavily in continual professional development for all to ensure that learning potential is maximised. We aim to develop independant and responsible yound adults who play a positive role as active citizens in society. We have high expectations of every student, regardless of ability, gender or background. We aim to challenge every individual to reach their full potential.
Our Specialisms
The school has three specialisms:
-
Product Design - The academy has a long established reputation for excellence and is a nationally recognised leader in this field, especially in computer aided design and manufacture. The recent major enhancements in specialised accommodation and equipment are enabling the school to develop further exciting and innovative projects. The department is involved in a wide range of Initial Teacher Training, and works with many other schools locally, nationally and internationally;
-
Performing Arts - Music at Dixons has a well earned and long established reputation for its excellence and diversity, both within the school and further afield. The Academy’s new facilities have enabled us to extend this excellence and opportunity into all areas of the Performing Arts. The complex includes a 200 seat theatre, a music technology suite, a recording studio, a Drama workshop and a Dance studio;
- Vocational - We offer a range of applied learning courses and are one of the first institutions in the country to pilot the Creative and Media Diploma
