West Coventry Sixth Form

About us

West Coventry Sixth Form is an unique collaboration where three local schools come together to pool their resources and offer a comprehensive Sixth Form experience. Being a student here offers fantastic opportunities for students to study and further their skills with excellent and innovative teaching in impressive facilities, thereby enabling students to gain the qualifications and experiences for them to access university, further education and the careers of their choice. We are an inclusive Sixth form and are proud to be able to offer Sixth Form places to our successful year 11 students from all three home schools as well as an increasing number of external students who meet our entrance criteria.

We offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses at level 3 alongside a tutorial programme with a distinct ethos that offers guidance for students in study skills, vocational and careers advice, financial management and higher education. With dedicated Careers advisers on each site we can offer a careers/pathways programme which includes individual and group information and guidance, support with personal statements, interview practice and visits to universities and increasingly workplaces.

There are many leadership and enrichment opportunities at West Coventry Sixth Form–We have a team of  student ambassadors supporting whole school events and community work and many student leaders working alongside teachers in KS3 and KS4 classes, working as technicians, mentors, and leading by example in our school and wider community. Several students are actively engaged on programmes

Our students are actively encouraged to participate in and contribute to all aspects of school life. Our Sixth formers are encouraged to opt for a weekly enrichment activity from a range of school opportunities or to look externally and organise their own. The idea of this programme is to further enhance their all-round education thereby equipping them for their future pathways.

We believe in empowering our students to develop and grow in a structured, nurturing, environment ensuring that they achieve their academic potential and flourish as responsible young adults; who are ready to take their next steps in education or the world of work and to make a positive contribution to our community.

Facilities available

West Coventry Sixth Form is spread across three sites with students based and taught across the sites dependent upon their subject choices. Movement is minimised where possible but transport is provided to move students between sites if necessary. This unique arrangement means students are able to access a wealth of not just teaching expertise and experience, but they enjoy access to a wide range of high quality learning resources across the three sites. These include dedicated teaching rooms for all subjects including specialist Science laboratories, dedicated Sixth Form Art and Photography studios, Professional standard Music resources including two recording studios, drama studios, multi media facilities and extensive modern foreign language support. Sixth form students have access rights and borrowing priviledges at not one but three school libraries. Students also have ICT access at all three sites including acess to a VLE meaning all school work is accessible when off site also.

Sixth form students also have access to a wide range of sports facilities across the three sites including Swimming Pool, Sports Hall, Gymnasium and Multi-gym and access to the PowerLeague facilities.

Each site has its own dedicated Post 16 student  base with modern social spaces including kitchen and lunch areas. on each site there is a resourced, Sixth Form only, supervised study study facility in which students spend any no lesson contact periods working or studying.

Additional support

As you would expect with resources of three centres combining, we offer a supportive environment in which to continue your education. Students and parents comment in all surveys that they feel safe and secure and supported in their learning. All students have access to the study centre where supervisors can help you with work or at least point you in the right direction. There is a Student Support Centre available to support, guide and help students on each of the three sites and students can use the services of any or all.

Additional support takes many forms, this may be traditional TA support, small group projects or just special access arrangements in public examinations. These arrangements can continue into Sixth Form, but as with increased indepenence and responsibility for your own learning we would expect you to approach us for any help you feel you may need. Support is also not just helping with learning or dealing with physical problems, Sixth Form is a key period in students emotional development and many will experience personal issues that will require the help of pastoral and school support staff. Sometimes where we feel students would benefit from external agency support we can call on a wide range of specialist help.

Examples of support we may be able to offer are:

  • Advice and guidance on personal issues
  • Special arrangements for those who have had help in exams (for identified needs)
  • Help with coursework/homework that you're struggling with
  • One to one guided support with Student Support staff by arrangement.
