Welcome to St John Plessington Catholic College
It gives me great pleasure to introduce our Sixth Form to you.As a Catholic College every decision we make and everything we do places the needs of the individual student first. We are totally committed to providing the very best education we can offer – Academic, Spiritual and Extra-Curricular. If you are a current student at SJP you know the teachers here will go that extra mile for you but don’t be fooled into thinking Sixth Form life is just “more of the same”. Whilst the fundamental ingredients which make us an “Outstanding” College are still present, Sixth Form life is very different.
Sixth Form study has to be challenging to prepare you for life at university and the workforce, but it is also enjoyable. There is no better place to be with you friends, celebrating your success together.
The next two years should be some of the best years of your life; providing you with memories to last a lifetime. SJP has an excellent reputation and the Sixth Form plays a central part in the continuing success of the College.Sixth Form students are involved in every aspect of College life and help make the College an enriching, vibrant, high achieving and supportive community.
You will be given greater privileges and responsibilities both for your own education and the well being of others. You will be taught in smaller groups;have more self directed study time and working towards becoming a highly successful, capable and independent learner.Throughout the two years you will receive the very best pastoral and academic support possible.

At SJP, each academic year brings with it changes to the Sixth Form. Some are driven by curriculum change, some by developments in facilities and provision for students and some by our partnership with other centres. Yet one of the most exciting catalyst of changes comes from the students themselves. Students join a Sixth Form council, which meets regularly to plan events, nominate charities and help in the smooth running of the Sixth Form and its facilities.
SJP Sixth Form now has fantastic new facilities to benefit our students. These include The Zone where students can read newspapers, make use of the wi-fi facility and make use of another quiet study area. Also we have a spacious study centre called the Basil Hume Sixth Form Learning Centre, with plans afoot to increase our Sixth Form areas. This includes excellent ICT facilities, toilets, Heads of Learning offices and a Resource Base.
Each student is allocated a personal tutor who helps with all aspects of Sixth Form life. The personal tutor is the first contact should a problem arise. The Director of Sixth Form works closely with Heads of Learning for Y12 and 13 as well as tutors to monitor and counsel each student. Individual help, guidance and support are given to students with their UCAS application for University entrance. Tutorials are delivered on all aspects of Higher Education such as finance, budgeting and writing a personal statement for University applications. Students are supported in making their applications on line, which are then sent via the internet. Speakers from Higher Education regularly visit the Sixth Form centre and close links are in operation with local Universities.
