Additional support

Weatherhead Sixth Form offers

  • Excellent pastoral support - a dedicated team of tutors and specialist Sixth Form staff including a Sixth Form Learning Mentor and Learning Support Co-ordinator to ensure each student has the very best opportunity to achieve their potential

  • Individual support and guidance from people who care for your needs including expertise in offering advice on how to progress when your course is completed
  • We will help you to design a programme of study to suit your interests, abilities and ambitions.  We will prepare with you a personal plan which describes what you want to do and how, with our help, you can achieve it.  By working together we can help you to succeed.  We will help you to set, monitor and achieve your targets
  • On entering the Sixth Form you are given an Initial Target Range (ITR) based upon your Average GCSE Score.  Throughout the Sixth Form your progress is measured and monitored against this range to see if you are working beyond, at the top end, within or below your Initial Target Range.
  • The monitoring procedure takes place twice during the year and the Progress Grades are discussed with you in a one-to-one interview with your subject teachers
  • In each stage of monitoring the Progress Grades are issued to parents and progress is also discussed at Parents' Evening.  If you are under achieving in a subject, supportive strategies will be put in place to help raise your attainment

Learner success

Weatherhead High School Sixth Form prides itself on the excellent examination results achieved by its students.  It is important to recognise that we enter more Sixth Form students for examinations than any other Comprehensive School in Wirral.

We believe that students who show commitment and enthusiasm for their work should be rewarded with the opportunity to try for examination success.

Our results reflect the wide range of abilities of our students and many of those students achieve excellent examination results and go on to read for degrees in courses such as Veterinary Science, Medicine, Mathematics, History, Sociology, Chemistry, Physics and Law at prestigious universities.  Many of these have gone on to achieve First Class Honours degrees.  Firm links with Oxford and Cambridge have been established, with students regularly gaining entrance to study at Degree and Masters Level.

In 2012, 100% of our students who took Advanced Level subjects achieved passes. Our pass grade at ‘A’ level and success criteria is better than any comparable comprehensive school on the Wirral and a significant number of students had the top result in the Wirral.

All of our vocational students who successfully completed their course obtained qualification which allowed them to progress to Higher or Further Education or employment. Some of those students achieved the higher grades of Merit and Distinction.
