Welcome to Archway School
Archway is a comprehensive school where students of all abilities learn to live and work together as they will in their adult lives. We have 1170 students aged between 11 and 18 years old. Typically our students go on to make significant contributions in the wider world of academic study, scientific and technological research and development, commerce and industry, the arts and sport and to their local communities.
Our role is to support them in realising these aspirations. A majority of our students continue into further education and many go on to Universities and Colleges. However, no matter what a child’s abilities, each is valued as an individual and encouraged to achieve his or her best.
Academic achievement, innovation, creativity and care are hallmarks of Archway: our students exhibit high standards in their work, behaviour and play. Along with a close partnership between school and home, these provide the basis of success for all.
Our aim is to offer quality and breadth in our teaching and learning, underpinned by individual care. We are proud of our popular and thriving school and of our students who benefit from committed staff, specialist facilities and access to our own sixth form. We hope that this prospectus will give you a flavour of what we have to offer. We welcome visits and we look forward to meeting you. Choosing a secondary school is an important decision and we shall be delighted to help in any way we can.
We are proud of our sixth form at Archway and of the contribution students make to the school and to the community. We encourage students to be independent learners who have unique ideas and aspirations, but make sure we provide them with the support they need along the way.
Our sixth form has grown over recent years, both in numbers and in the range of courses we offer. Each year we welcome students from a number of local schools and are pleased to say that in a very short time they soon feel part of the Archway community.
Of course you will be coming here to study and whether you join with the aim of moving on to University or of improving your employment prospects with higher level qualifications, we are committed to providing you with high quality teaching, care and guidance from a team of highly committed professionals led by Julian Young – Head of Sixth Form.
It’s not all about work though and our elected sixth form council ensures that there are opportunities for social activity too. And it goes without saying that you can involve yourself in the dramatic, musical and sporting life of the school as well. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the sixth form at Archway.
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is made available from the Government – to provide assistance to students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. Further information regarding eligibility and application forms are available from the sixth form.
