About us

We are a small 6th Form, which allows us to ensure that all students’ needs are catered for. We offer a wide variety of both academic and vocational courses, which students can combine to create a personalised curriculum which suits their needs and ambitions. Our students consistently achieve high results, and our staff are highly experienced, particularly in vocational teaching.

In addition to seeking academic success we give our students the opportunity to develop the skills required to compete in this changing world and to have the confidence and resilience to succeed at the highest level whether they choose to continue into Higher Education at university or employment. Our goal is that all of our students should not only achieve to the best of their ability, but also enjoy their time at Millbrook Academy Sixth Form so that they leave here with good academic results and happy memories.

Facilities available

The Sixth Form Centre is an excellent resource with study areas, ICT facilities and comfortable common areas. Our state of the art £3.5 million new science block will transform our school and provide a ‘super lab’, modern, well equipped science classrooms and dedicated vocational teaching rooms. In addition to this we have a sports center on site with a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, tennis courts and a new all weather sports pitch which are available for anyone to use.

Additional support

In the Sixth Form, students are divided into Year 12 and Year 13 tutor groups. This enables us to target our support specifically. Tutor groups are friendly and supportive, and tutors enjoy being involved with the daily running of the Sixth Form

Academic progress is carefully monitored and from the beginning of Year 12 progress will be tracked, through regular reviews and departmental trackers, enabling everyone involved in our student’s education to follow their progress closely, ensuring that any issues are identified and supported early. Targets are set at the beginning of Year 12. These targets are both realistic and ambitious, ensuring that students aspire to reach the highest possible standards.

Achievements are celebrated weekly, on Celebration Fridays, and termly, using the Sixth Form achievements tracker.

Our Sixth Form students are encouraged to take greater control of their learning and our students are encouraged to work independently. We strongly believe in our Sixth Formers’ abilities to exercise a bit more responsibility and to recognise that they are can achieve their full potential.

We offer a range of high quality advice and guidance to help students choose the most suitable learning options. If students aspire to go to university we will help them achieve their very best.

Teaching is geared to the students needs so each student can reach their full potential. We offer a range of subjects, at both GCE AS/A2 and Level 3 BTEC. Students will be able to take a combination of GCE and BTEC subjects, depending on thier interests, strengths and plans for the future. In 2011, 100% of students passed 100% of courses at both GCE and BTEC. Subject staff are well qualified and experienced in teaching Key Stage 5 students and we pride ourselves on the positive relationships staff form with students in the Sixth Form.
