Bournside is an exciting and rewarding place in which to learn and to teach. Our Vision Statement describes the school’s ambition for the future and informs all we do. Entry requirements to Cheltenham Bournside Sixth Form Centre Overall, a minimum of 5 C+ grades are required for 3 AS courses, and 6 C+ grades for 4 AS courses. One of these C+ grades must be in English Language. The majority of students are expected to study for 4 AS-levels in Year 12.
To be successful in certain subjects at AS/A2, a grade B at GCSE may be required. Details of entry requirements for each subject are included in the individual subject course summaries.
Bournside is an oversubscribed 11–18 Academy with a Sixth Form of around 350 students. We believe that the school has a vital role to play in helping young people prepare themselves for the future. We are committed to high standards of work, conduct and appearance. We provide first-class facilities and the kind of atmosphere that allows young people to develop fully. We encourage and celebrate all forms of personal achievement and excellence.
Bournside has close ties with schools around the world including Africa and Nepal. In recent years, students have combined education, charity work and and fun on visits to South Africa, Austria, Peru, Italy, Vietnam, India, Brazil, France, Spain, USA, Germany and the Czech Republic. Bournside gained the International School Award (2010-2013) in recognition of our commitment to the global dimension of education.
The Sixth Form Centre attacts many students from schools around the county. A dynamic mix of newcomers and establised Bournside students gives this particular sixth form a character all of its own. Our exam results compare very favourably with those of other top performing schools in the county. However, academic success is just one of a vast array of opportunities on offer. Our Learning Centre is a highly equipped, open plan, technology rich learning centre, enabling a variety of study environments to work seamlessly alongside each other. It suits the needs of all learners and incorporates both fixed and wirelsss technology and specialised IT usage, as well as embracing social interaction, admitting mobile phones, and refreshment facilities.
Bournside has superb sporting facilities, including a floodlit astroturf pitch. We have a drama theatre, digital arts suite for film making and an art studio dedicated to sixth form use with a large gallery. For performances, the large school hall has a stage and fully equipped lighting box.
Our sixth form development provides an independent study space that combines networked computers.
Our Dining Center is open from 8.00am – 3.45pm serving a range of delicious nutritional snacks, meals and drinks. We now have a breakfast, break and lunch menu each offering different tasty food each day
Bournside is an inclusive school. It is our policy to offer all students access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum and full range of educational opportunities and extra-curricular activities, regardless of their academic or physical ability.
Sixth form students are supported by a strong pastoral team and there are strong links between the sixth form and the main school with Year 13 students acting as mentors for younger pupils.
