Clarkson Evans is an electrical contractor with a core business of completing the electrical installation for a variety of major house builders. We set up our own training centre in 1998 and the centre has gone from strength to strength.

The main business was born in May 1981 when Steve Evans, now the Managing Director, decided to become self-employed as an electrical contractor. The company was then registered as S P Evans.  The business expanded and in 1992 we moved to our first proper commercial premises. After two further moves the company arrived at its present location at the Meteor Business Park in Gloucester. There are also now branches in Birmingham, Trowbridge, Southampton, Plymouth, Oxford and Newport in South Wales. In addition we are in the process of opening a new unit in Cornwall. All off-the-job training takes place at our state-of-the-art training centre in Gloucester.

The decision to start training our own apprentices has been instrumental to this growth. We have been able to base our training on the Electrotechnical Apprenticeship framework and supplement this with training to suit the requirements of our contracting business and of other employers for whom we now train apprentices. Trainees learn about in-house company procedures at the same time as learning the technical requirements of the qualification.

We believe that we have exceeded our initial aims by offering a range of training and support for young and mature learners and large companies as well as the smaller companies that we originally targeted.

Our future objectives are to expand the centre and to broaden our provision so that we are meeting the needs of learners and employers on a wider geographical scale.
