Welcome to Katharine Lady Berkeley's School
Welcome to Katharine Lady Berkeley’s school, a highly successful 11-18 mixed comprehensive with 1450 students on roll including 275 in the sixth form. The school has a long history, having been founded on October 20th 1384 by Katharine, the wife of Lord Berkeley and operating continuously since that date. Our school nestles under the southern tip of the Cotswold escarpment, close to the town of Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire.
The school was originally sited in the town itself, having moved to the old school buildings in 1726. In 1963 the school moved to its present location just outside the town. The school became comprehensive in 1973 and converted to Academy status in August 2011.We are committed to ensuring that all students have the widest range of opportunities available to them when they leave the school by offering a broad and balanced curriculum. This enables them to gain the best results of which they are each capable and also promotes the development of the personal qualities necessary for success in further or higher education, employment and in adult life in general.
We place a high priority on the personal development of young people so that they learn how to work and live together and how to enjoy healthy and active lives. Therefore these aspects of education are evident throughout the whole curriculum, through a wide range of extra-curricular activities and an excellent system of pastoral care and support. This was noted in our last full OFSTED inspection in 2012, when the report noted that the care and support for students is a strong feature of the school and that, overall, the behaviour and safety of students is outstanding.
