Welcome to Cromwell Community College

Principal’s Welcome:

I would like to thank you for considering sending your child to Cromwell Community College. We are proud to serve the local community of Chatteris and the surrounding villages and are committed to providing your child with the best possible education for their entire career at the College. We are delighted to be recognised as a ‘Good’ school but realise that we can continue to improve, and continue to work towards being recognised as ‘Outstanding’.

We believe in an inclusive ethos, where all pupils are encouraged to be successful and achieve. We have the highest ambitions for our pupils across the curriculum, both academically and outside of the classroom. We continue to improve our academic results, putting the needs of the pupils first and ensuring they receive the highest quality support. This would not be as successful if we did not have such strong partnerships with parents, pupils and staff. The staff at Cromwell are a highly dedicated, professional team who are committed to the best outcomes for the pupils.

We have been fortunate to undergo a £9million refurbishment of the College which was completed in August 2013 and this has ensured that we have a College which is fit for learning in the 21st Century. I would encourage you to visit us and see what the site has to offer.

As a parent, I understand the importance of making the decision regarding the choice of Post 16 and the information which we provide will help you to begin this process. We would be more than happy to discuss any aspect of Post 16 life with you.

Mrs J E Horn

Principal

About us

Cromwell Community College is a rural comprehensive school serving the town of Chatteris and the villages of Benwick, Manea, Doddington and Wimblington.

At Cromwell we aim to:

  • provide a quality education
  • achieve good exam results
  • offer a secure and well structured environment
  • work together with parents
  • cater for pupils of all abilities
  • make school a safe and enjoyable place for all pupils.

We are designated an 11-18 school, with expanding numbers at Post-16; we began delivery of "A" Level studies in September 2005.

Facilities available

As Mrs Horn mentioned, Cromwell has been fortunate to benefit from Building Schools for the Future funding and an extensive new buildings programme has gone alongside re-modelling and refurbishment of the entire Cromwell site. It is now a very impressive site of which we are immensely proud.

At the end of March 2013, we moved into a brand new and purpose built Post-16 area; this area has dedicated ICT and other study areas for the Post-16 students as well as their own social area.

The Learning Resource Centre has had significant investment to support the student with resources and facilities. Our Guidance Advisor is regularly on site to help with decisions about the future progression.

Our building programme of new and refurbished facilities was completed in August 2013

Additional support

We have an inclusive ethos to our Post-16 provision, which helps our students to be successful in their studies and future plans. Our success comes from having smaller than average Post-16 classes and a higher than recommended time allocation to each subject.  Our current Year 12 is our biggest ever cohort and indciates the success we are having.

The support for Post-16 students happens in a variety of ways and involves a number of people; we have a specialist Post-16 tutor team who, under the leadership of our Director of Post-16 Studies, have a key role in the monitoring of attendance and academic tracking and intervention. His full time Personal Assistant helps to support the students and helps to maintain the link between home and school.

In addition, our Guidance Advisor is regularly on site to help with decisions about the student’s future progression into university, other training, apprenticeships or work.

If you require further information or would like to have a look around Cromwell and to see what we have to offer, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Fisher at kfisher@cromwell.cambs.sch.uk
