Welcome to The Netherhall School and Sixth Form Centre

The Netherhall Sixth Form is an ambitious and successful Sixth Form Centre located to the South of the City of Cambridge.  There are currently 240 students in the Sixth Form. The Head of Sixth Form is Mr Karim Marsaoui.

The Netherhall Sixth Form offers two programmes of study: A-Level and a range of Applied courses.

Students who study at The Netherhall School and Sixth Form achieve success at Level Three and go on to Higher Education and  & Further Education courses, apprenticehsips, employment and some students choose to take  a GAP year.

The college is committed to develop students as mature and independent individuals, and we strive to equip them for the challenges which lie ahead. Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and work experience.  Students are able to apply to join the Career Ready scheme, where students of STEM related subjects can be mentored by a company such as ARM.

We believe that each student deserves the opportunity to build upon their interests, and thereby gain further skills. At Netherhall we value our partnership with parents and we have excellent links with the local community and businesses.

About us

Class sizes at Netherhall are, on average, smaller than class sizes at the Sixth Form Colleges. For September 2016 our average class size in Year 12 is 15. This allows the staff to develop supportive working relationships with the students. We are able to track and monitor student progress, so that appropriate intervention can be made where necessary. Netherhall’s Sixth Form is large enough to provide a wide range of A-level opportunities but small enough to recognise the needs of the individual students. In this way we can encourage each person to achieve their potential.

Facilities available

The facilities for Netherhall Sixth Form are located across the college site, with a new Science block, Art and Photography area, English, Mathematics, Business Studies, Economics, Psychology and Sociology, and other upgraded facilities fully incorporated on to our campus.

The Sixth Form students have a section of the Atrium Building which is exclusively for their use, including a Common Room and Cafe. They also have a “state of the art” ICT study suite which has promoted an even stronger emphasis on individual study.

Subject teachers regularly make themselves available to students to support on-going study and each student is part of a tutor group, of approximately 20 students, who meet together.  Students have regular one to one meetings with their tutors to track their progress, set targets and provide additional support for applications to university/apprenticeships.  Students are very well supported at the college with an excellent pastoral suport system and an inclusive student futures programme.

Additional support

The most important aspect of Learner Support is the dedicated team of experienced teachers who cater for the wide ranging needs of the students. The smaller study environment allows the teachers to deliver lessons of a high standard and to tailor specific support where necessary. There is a system of Academic Mentoring, where students who may be struggling are identified and linked to academic mentors who can intervene where it is appropriate. If a student has Special Educational Needs, their circumstances are discussed and support can be put in place.

Learner success

Netherhall Sixth Form has enjoyed six consecutive years of improving results:

2014    %A*- B = 41.3      %A*- C = 72.5       %A*- E = 99.2

2015    %A* - B = 39         %A*-C = 76           %A* - E = 99

2016    %A* - B = 43         %A*-C = 80           %A* - E = 100

In addition, Netherhall Sixth Form’s Value Added (judged by a range of measures) is positive.
