Welcome to St Thomas More Catholic School

I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of St Thomas More Catholic School. It is an exciting, vibrant and supportive community, blessed with wonderful young people, with whom it is a privilege to work. For me every day is both an adventure and an opportunity to explore the wider world, and that is how we want to inspire our pupils to feel.

Since 1974, the school has earned a region-wide reputation for academic rigour, breathtaking music, art and drama, exciting sport and, most importantly, the development of socially responsible, highly creative young men and women whose approach to life and others is underpinned by Gospel values.

We are delighted to welcome children of all faiths and denominations and benefit immensely from a diverse, multi-cultural community. We are avowedly Catholic in our approach and expect all children to participate in our celebrations of God’s work.

We want the next generation not only to be equipped with outstanding academic and vocational qualifications but to share values which are underpinned by a common bond of respect for others and the world around them, endeavour and joyfulness. That is why we place a love of God at the heart of all we do.

Please find out more about St Thomas More Catholic School and be assured that every child in our care will always be known, loved, and encouraged to develop as a caring, confident, young person who is ready to change the world for the better.

Dr S. J. Hatfield,

Headteacher

About us

The Sixth Form is a vibrant, exciting community which challenges students to realise their academic potential while offering new opportunities for leadership, endeavour and service.

Students are closely monitored and supported so they can achieve the best A Level and Level 3 qualifications, allowing them to progress to leading universities and long term job opportunities.

There is a specialised team of staff dedicated to mentoring our Sixth Formers who can help then realise their potential. Students meet as a form group everyday and on a regular basis have one to one meetings with their form tutor to discuss both academic progress and personal development.

We offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses with opportunities for students to improve their mathematics and English grades if necessary.

We have outstanding facilities with purpose built study areas and state-of-the-art technology with staff always on hand to help and advise.

It is a welcoming community and those who have joined from other schools speak of the easy transition and how quickly they integrate and begin to get the most out of Sixth Form life.

Students are expected to take on greater responsibility and accept leadership roles within the wider school community, thus making sure younger children feel secure and supported.

Sixth Form students are our ambassadors and represent the school in a wide range of activities and sports teams. They can also express themselves through the performing arts, growing in self-confidence and learning new skills.

Many courses, including geography, technology, and history allow students to go on trips abroad. Exploration is encouraged through our participation in the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme of which we are a directly licensed centre.

All students engage in a programme of voluntary service both inside and outside of school, and those who choose can work with the sick on our annual Lourdes pilgrimage.

Facilities available

Our school boasts a dedicated chapel, state-of-the-art learning resource centre, a large sports hall, enhanced ICT provision, several ICT suites, purpose built, designed and furnished classrooms, a drama area, a sixth from study centre, a 250-seat theatre and assembly hall, climbing wall and fitness suite.
