Welcome to Kesgrave High School
We aim at Kesgrave High School to provide a friendly and positive environment in which children are encouraged to develop to their own full potential and reach the highest levels of achievement. Education today must respond to the changing nature of society in a flexible way, while maintaining a firm grasp of the traditional values of self-reliance and care for others.
We aim to encourage young people to think for themselves, investigate and solve problems and see the variety of subject areas in relation to each other and in relevant contexts.
We organise pupils into mixed ability groups and the day is broken into 3 sessions of learning. We have found over the years that these two factors allow us to bring out the very best from all pupils and engage them with a variety of activities in every session. We firmly believe that all individuals in the school have abilities and talents and that in this school environment these can be nurtured and encouraged.
The examination results achieved by Kesgrave pupils are excellent and represent much hard work done in a school where high achievement is encouraged from the outset. We believe that excellent results can come out of a schooling that is both traditional in its values and stimulating and creative in its atmosphere.
Our pastoral system is designed to create the conditions for each individual in the school to be known and valued. Each pupil is encouraged to value his/her accomplishments and abilities. Prevention of problems is best achieved by stimulating the individual to value his/her strengths and understanding the part they have to play in the whole.
Approximately 70% of students progress into the Sixth Form to study, and we are fortunate to have superb purpose-built facilities which opened in September 2001. We opened a new Creative Media Centre, including the Thomas Theatre, in March 2008, with specialist facilities for Media Studies, Music Technology, Photography and Expressive Arts.
In June 2004, we took possession of a brand new purpose-built block for the Communications Faculty. Between June 2004 and September 2005, a large amount of refurbishment and redecoration took place in Maths, Humanities and Technology. The next development phase has now been completed: this has given us a new PE block attached to the Sports Hall and 3 new Science laboratories. Your children will therefore reap the benefits of all these exciting developments.
The majority of our Sixth Form students progress on to University and flourish in Higher Education. We receive glowing feedback on how well prepared our students are as independent learners and critical thinkers. We are equally proud of all the youngsters who progress straight into employment or vocational learning, and again their success is truly remarkable.
In order for our students to become well-rounded, confident adults, we have created a culture of independent learning and creative thinking, coupled with an aspirational outlook. What makes us different is the people. We believe we have a very rare thing, a community. Everyone within the Sixth Form, and indeed the entire school, has respect, tolerance and a mutual understanding for one another.
Our aim is for students to leave Sixth Form thinking ‘I really enjoyed that experience’ – knowing that they have been consistently encouraged and supported by the teachers and staff. Exam results are important too, but students making the most of the opportunities available to them is our real success.
Designed with you in mind, our Sixth Form is a creative, welcoming environment that will teach each and every student how to make the most of every opportunity. Sixth Form is the stepping stone between high school and the ‘real’ world. We’re here to help you make the decisions that will shape your future. With the right guidance and encouragement (plus a fair share of first-hand experience), we’ll help you find your niche and get ready for your next steps.
With two dedicated Sixth Form buildings; featuring state-of-the-art classrooms, an Apple Mac IT suite, meeting areas and social hubs; students are encouraged to take control of their environment by adapting it to their style of learning. If you have a study period and work best with your headphones plugged in and your head in a book, feel free. If you want to have a spirited discussion with your classmates about a psychological theory, make full use of the meeting area. There’s even an outdoor classroom located in the Site of Special Scientific Interest, for those wishing to get outside and get their hands dirty.
Students with additional needs can access our learning support department and are also able to benefit from special consideration or exam arrangements as appropriate.
48% of grades achieved were A* to B with a 97% pass rate overall at A Level.
75% of students progressed directly onto HIgher Education.
8% of students have gone straight into employment.
17% of students have gone onto an apprenticeship or college course.
