Welcome to Lowestoft College
Lowestoft College has enjoyed a long and varied history since it was first established in the town 140 years ago.
Over the years, thousands of people have been through the doors to develop the new skills and qualifications they need for their future careers. Lowestoft College was originally established as an art college, but, over the years, more courses have been introduced and today range from the construction trades and engineering, to care, hairdressing and beauty therapy, as well as travel, catering, business, sport and uniformed services.
Lowestoft College has continued to play a major role in the local community and is continually looking at how it can continue to meet the training needs of today’s workforce. As well as offering the more traditional courses, the College has been developing new programmes including a pre-apprenticeship with the ECITB, social media and sales apprenticeships in association with Hoseasons Holidays, a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts in partnership with the DPA Performing Arts Academy and has also introduced a new video games course.
Did you know that our courses may also offer a route to studying for a degree? For a number of courses you can study from a Level 1 or 2 course right up to a foundation or honours degree course. And, some of our courses also attract UCAS points which means that you can apply to study at university.
Major investment has been made to the campus over the years to make sure that our students are able to enjoy training in well-equipped facilities. New cladding has been installed to the tower block, the hairdressing and beauty therapy facilities were completely refurbished in recent years and, in the summer of 2015, the art facilities were completely renovated. Major investment has also been made to the engineering and maritime departments to ensure they stay up to date with industry standards.
The College wants everyone to enjoy their time with us and to succeed on their chosen course. After an assessment with a member of staff from the Study Support Team the following support can be offered as part of an individual support programme:
- Communicator for the deaf/partially hearing
- Computer software for the blind/partially sighted
- Note takers
- Learning support assistants for personal care needs and classroom help

- Specialist equipment such as adapted keyboards, tracker mice and filter screens
- Support with literacy and numeracy skills

Former students have gone on to work in their chosen profession. Many are working in the local area but others have chosen to use their qualifications to travel the world and gain work abroad. Others have used their qualification to gain a place studying at university.
