Welcome to Stowmarket High School

I became the very proud Headteacher at Stowmarket High School in April 2015, taking over the reins at a time of great change in the local schooling system. This September we officially started as an 11-18 school, welcoming for the first time in the school’s history years 7 and 8. Having worked in such schools my entire career, I am delighted to take over this responsibility.

At Stowmarket we believe in pushing individuals to achieve the most aspirational outcomes, demonstrated most recently in 2015 with 83% of our A Level cohort achieving A*-C, and 52% passing 5 GCSE's including English and mathematics at grade C or higher. However, schooling is not only about exam results. Whilst with us students at SHS will be challenged to be socially responsible, culturally aware, resilient, polite, confident and creative young people.

Whatever their chosen route, whether it is into university, apprenticeships, or work based training we intend the young people of Stowmarket High School to be fully prepared for the next set of challenges that will face them.

About us

Stowmarket High School has one of the strongest and most successful Sixth Forms in the county.  We are in the top 10% nationally for progress and we regularly outperform other VI Forms in the area. As well as offering a suite of AS and A2 courses we have vocational courses on offer and Year 12 students have the opportunity to take the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) at level 3. This is recognised by Oxford and Cambridge, Medical and Veterinary Colleges, Russell Group Universities and all HE institutions and is beneficial when preparing for higher education interviews.

We provide a rich programme of extracurricular activities delivered in a welcoming environment to complement the academic life of our VI Form.

Students from Stowmarket High School Sixth Form are very successful in securing high level opportunities at Russell Group universities and with leading companies. Most students go on to a Higher Education course or gain employment on completion of their courses. Students are offered a place in the Sixth Form if they have achieved a minimum of five A* to C grades at GCSE. Certain A level subjects however have grade specific requirements for entry. There is also the opportunity to add further courses in their second year.
