Welcome to North Shropshire College - NSC

We pride ourselves in being a friendly college with a real focus on the interests and success of our students. Our main campuses are:
Walford - near Baschurch, Shrewsbury
Shipley - near Telford and Bridgenorth
Oswestry - near the NW Shropshire borders

We have an impressive A Level programme offering a menu of over 30 subjects. We also have a huge range of vocational courses that cover just about every curriculum area, with motor vehicle, outdoor education, animal management and care, land-based subjects based at Walford and the Shipley Campus.

If you are reading this then there is a good chance that you are already considering joining us at North Shropshire College (NSC), so I would like to thank you for your interest. Our students, past and present, tell us that our College is a fantastic place to be a student so you would be making a great choice.


We have an extensive choice of full and part-time courses to suit all interests and abilities, delivered at five campuses across Shropshire: Oswestry, Walford (Land based studies), Shipley, Wem and the Aspire Centre in Tenbury Wells. We also offer an extensive range of apprenticeships delivered in the workplace.

We offer courses from level one through to degree level with new courses being introduced regularly. Please come in and talk to our advice and guidance staff or pop in to one of our open events and chat to our staff – we would love to see or hear from you.

The staff here at NSC are passionate about your success. They are talented teachers and very experienced in their subject areas. You will be well supported all the way through your time with us to ensure you achieve your goals and aspirations. We will work with you on an individual basis to ensure you gain the right skills, knowledge and qualifications you’ll need for when you leave to take that next step – whether to secure a place at University, start on a career path or set up your own business.

We are proud of our academic achievements at NSC, last year the success rates were above the national average, with our A level pass rate at 100%. Added value on vocational provision is at or above national average; this reflects the dedicated support provided by our professional staff who use their industrial experience to set high expectations of students. We provide outstanding support through our learning coaches as well as arranging extra activities such as study trips, clubs, sporting activities, work experience and so much more to ensure that you develop as an individual as well as having some fun!

You will find your learning experience at NSC is greatly enhanced by our learning environment. We have invested significantly to provide you with first class teaching and learning facilities as well as student social spaces.

Facilities available

Oswestry Campus offers some of the best educational facilities in Shropshire - an exciting, modern campus on a shared site with superb, purpose built Oswestry Leisure Centre.  Our purposeful learning environment provides an excellent range of classrooms and well-resourced learning facilities, including new dedicated study centres.

Specialist facilities include:

Four hair and beauty salons meeting the latest professional standards

Dedicated art studio, with ceramics and photography facilities

Six computer classrooms plus graphics/multimedia workshop with a suite of Apple Macs

Professional teaching kitchen and Scholars restaurant

A modern Library and Learning Resources Centre (LRC)

High quality sports pitch, training pitch and Multi-Use Games Area

New for 2014, brand new Construction Centre focusing on bricklaying and plumbing, with electrical studies and carpentry to follow September 2015.

The Walford Campus is situated amidst a beautiful 220 hectare estate near Baschurch, just a few miles west of Shrewsbury with a network of transport routes from Telford, Shrewsbury, North Shropshire and the Welsh borders.

Following recent investment of over £10m, Walford provides some of the best land-based facilities in the region.

We are particularly proud of the new RD Park Dairy Centre with its state-of-the-art robotic milking parlour.  We also benefit from excellent engineering, motor vehicle and sports facilities set within an extensive country estate.  The extensive grounds also include mature woodlands, new tree plantations, fishing pools and a rough game shoot. 

The award winning Harris Centre provides fantastic specialist resources for animal care, which houses over 100 species and over 700 animals ranging from alpacas to meerkats, snakes, rats, kookaburras and bearded dragons.  As well as specialist animal laboratories, a dog grooming parlour and an impressive birds of prey centre, the Harris Centre provides a range of high quality classroom and IT facilities plus a brand new library to meet the needs of our animal care students.

Our aim is to bring out the best in every individual and offer a broad range of courses, with particular focus at Walford on our land-based specialisms.

The mature learning environment we offer is, in our view, the best preparation for university and the world of work.  At the same time, we get to know every student and make sure that when you need support, you get it.
