Welcome to Greenacre School and College


Greenacre is one of Barnsley's Special Schools. We have a new building with brand new vocational areas.

We have an Hydrotherapy pool, on site Physiotherapist, Occpational Therapist, Speech Therapist and Nurses.

There is a dedicated hair and beauty salon, office, catering kitchen, horticulture area with a large polytunnel and a workshop. 

We have our own retail shop in Barnsley and a house where our students can prepare meals and learn how to use household equipment etc and learn independent living skills for the future.

Greenacre has pupils from 2-19 years old and Greenacre College is the Post 16 Department. It is separate from the rest of the school. A recent Ofsted Inspection found Greenacre School and College to be Outstanding. 

About us

All pupils at Greenacre have a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
Their specific needs identified in their Statements are met through Individual Education Plans (IEPs), plans that include physical needs plans, personal care plans, medical care plans and behaviour modification plans as appropriate.

Facilities available

Greenacre is well resourced with specialist equipment including electronic aids and interactive technology. There are specialist areas including a hydrotherapy pool, light and sound rooms, catering kitchen, hair and beauty salon, horticultural area with polytunnel, dedicated office and a workshop.

There is a school house on Victoria Road that is fuly adapted for wheelchair users and is used as a life skills training base. We have a shop in the centre of Barnsley called 'Lets Go Potty' where items made by some of our students are sold as part of our retail vocational group.

In the Key Stage 4 Department students access core lesson in Numeracy, Literacy, Science and PE as well as chosing vocational sessions in photography, art, music, dance, hair and beauty, horticulture,retail, enterprise and childcare.
Greenacre College/School works closely with a number of support services. These include Speech and LanguageTherapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, School Health Service, Psychologists, Disabled Children's Team (Social Services), Community Learning Disability Team and Connexions (Careers Guidance).  Working in partnership we all aim to deliver high quality services. We also have a full time pupil/parent counsellor and social interaction mentor employed by the school. 

Pupils travel between home and school on transport organised by the LA. Students are accompanied on the vehicles by escorts who are employed by the Authority and are responsible for the supervision and care of the pupils on these journeys. 

Additional support

In College each student has an individual timetable & follows an appropriate modular programme of study. All students follow modules in Adult Literacy and Numeracy (including ICT and RE), Life Skills and Vocational Training. All students follow qualification schemes from City and Guilds and Edexel.  In Key stage 4 students have a detailed accreditation pathways which identifies the accrediations, qualifications and certificates they will achieve in year 11. Greenacre School and College has a high staff-student ratio to support student.

 

Learner success

All students leave with a qualification or certificate in one or more of these areas.
