About us

Welcome to Independent Training College- Graded 'Good' with outstanding student support by Ofsted.

We understand that moving from school to  further education can be a challenging and scary time.

Here at Independent Training College we offer full support and flexible programmes of learning to meet your needs and provide you with all the tools you need to progress into your dream career.

Whether you're interested in vocational courses or an apprenticeship, Independent Training College offers a wide range of options with no entry requirements. 

Students here work to develop employability skills, build their CV and work to gain those all important English and maths qualifications in order to kick start their career. Further to this, we offer a range of vocational qualifications within a huge range of sectors, work placements to provide our students with valuable, direct experience and progression opportunities with local, reputable companies.

Inclusive financial assistance, free meals and pastoral support ensure our students make the most of their education and overcome any barriers they may face from time to time. 

Vocational qualifications and Apprenticeships are offered in: Business Administration, Accountancy, Hospitality, Catering, Customer Services, Health and Social Care, Retail, Sales, management, Hair and beauty. We also offer our students a range of independent study options which cover elements of lots of additional sectors.

With central centres in Barnsley, Huddersfield and Doncaster which feature specialist training facilities, our expert tutoring staff are on hand to deliver courses in a personal and flexible way, which meets the needs of our students regardless of their prior qualifications or skill sets. We have specialist SEND departments to support those who need it and all of our options are offered in small groups, resulting in a relaxed and supportive environment to study in.  

Established for over 30 years, we have the skills and expertise needed to help our students learn, earn, achieve and progress!

Additional support

At Independent Training College, we understand that learning is just a small part of our student's world and we offer full pastoral support to help with those difficulties we all face from time to time. This includes support with any external hardship our students may struggle with and includes help with accessing external services such as health care agencies, help with family or other disputes, and support with accessing independent accomodation or food banks if needed. We're here for our students and work hard to ensure they can access education and live healthy lives. 

We also specialise in providing support to those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and we work closely with parents, guardians and carers to ensure a cohesive and caring approach to our delivery. We provide an individualised and personal service which caters to our studen's unique learning abilities and we have fully qualified staff who specialise in Autism, Aspergers Syndrome, sensory impairments, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. We also work with those who have phsychological, social, communication or physical difficulties. The support we offer to students varies from student to student but includes small class sizes, one to one support, assistive technology and/or aids, external support, exam support such as readers, scribe and addiitonal time, and councilling sessions, addiitonal reviews and tutorials.

As we are a registered charity, we work with other charities to provide ourstudents with unique benefits such as free breakfasts, lunches and food to take home from our Barnsley site. We have access to government bursaries to assist eligible learners with the cost of travel and supplies. 

All of our programmes of learning feature embedded Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to ensure our learners stay on track with progress and understand the sectors they will one day be working in. As a matrix accredited centre, all IAG is provided to a high standard by qualified, internal careers advisors and tutoring staff.
