There is no question that exciting times now lie ahead for Nicholas Chamberlaine School. Our emphasis is on raising achievement and we have a number of initiatives developing that include the sharing of good practice.
Our aim is to provide the best possible education for each and every student. We want to create successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve; confident individuals who are able to lead safe and healthy lives and responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.
Our vision, then, is of a Sixth Form where everyone has the right and the opportunity to reach their full potential. This requires high quality teaching and high levels of student engagement.
Our purposely designed Sixth Form Centre caters for over 250 students who follow AS and A2 courses, with many going on into Higher Education. Our Sixth Form is a very important and valued part of Nicholas Chamberlaine School and sets an education standard
for the rest of the school’s students.

It provides an ideal transition from school life to higher education. Naturally, the main focus is on rigorous academic study but as the students mature into adults, we also aim to open up more outside interests and develop a strong sense of responsibility.
Students are invited to enrol into our Sixth Form each September. Our entry requirement is a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C including either Maths or English. Students who wish to study the most demanding A levels will need to demonstrate a higher prior level of academic attainment.
Nicholas Chamberlaine School has a strong Careers Team and our staff have relevant expertise, experience and contacts. We are able to draw on an extensive careers library and tailor-made computer databases. This ensures that effective guidance is freely
available to all students to help them with options choices in Year 9, course and training selection in Year 11, subject choices at A level and the UCAS application procedures in the Sixth Form.
Schemes for talented and gifted students
We recognise that there are able, gifted and talented learners who have the potential to achieve at a higher level and we recognise that all such learners need opportunities to develop, extend and enhance their abilities. Every learner has a different starting
point and different aspirations and is entitled to a learning environment that challenges, inspires, motivates and excites.
Inclusion and Special Educational Needs
We recognise and cater for a wide range of students’ individual needs in terms of learning, behaviour, social and emotional difficulties and physical and sensory impairments. Liaison with key specialist agencies to support our students’ needs is a crucial part of our role.
