Welcome to Appleby Grammar School
Welcome to Appleby Grammar School. The School is set in a stunning rural location and is an academy with high standards and great ambition for all our students. We pride ourselves on our strong family and community ethos. Our curriculum is strong and well balanced, with plenty of choice. We are committed to developing every student's particular strengths in an environment in which they can thrive.
As a smaller secondary school we know each of our students individually, but we are large enough to offer specialist staffing and a curriculum to match your child's ambitions. Additionally, our commitment to ensuring each student makes excellent academic progress and receives outstanding pastoral care helps demonstrate the progressive education we offer that prepares our young people for the 21st century.
On behalf of the staff and governors we look forward to working with you to help your child really enjoy their secondary education and fulfil their potential.
We are proud to offer our students a full range of A-level and vocational courses, enhanced by enrichment opportunities and a comprehensive Personal Development Programme. We also encourage Sixth Form students to take up positions of responsibility, adding to the accumulation of skills, which can enhance and promote progression on to university, training or employment.
We are a small Sixth Form which means that we know our students well. This allows us to ensure we provide specific, relevant and personal advice when it comes to choosing course combinations and offering study support. Our team of specialist staff are always keen to help and form tutors are dedicated to providing daily support and guidance.
Underpinning our broad curriculum and strong pastoral care is a record of consistently good outcomes at A-level (100% pass rate in 2016). AGS Sixth Form students are supported to achieve academically and also to develop into mature, compassionate and responsible young adults. I look forward to meeting you. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Good luck with your GCSEs.
Mrs Barbara Raine
Sixth Form Centre: Our sixth form ‘common room’ is divided into two sections. A general more sociable area with sofas, tables, drinks machine and kitchen facilities. The second section includes computers all linked to a printer and a quiet study area.
Library: The library is used for quiet working in supported study periods and whenever the students wish to work.
Computer Room C2: Computer room C2 is for Sixth Form students only, and is used for A-Level ICT. Outside of these lessons it may be used as a quiet working area.
Study Rooms 1 & 2: Located in the quietest area of school, the study rooms are a great place for students to work independently.
