James Rennie is a maintained co-educational day special school for students aged between 3 and 19 living in Carlisle and the surrounding districts. We are situated near junction 44 on the M6 in pleasant countryside. The school caters for approximately 140 pupils with Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties. Some of our pupils also have Autism. Pupils come from a wide area, which for some can be up to 40 miles away.
Our school offers all its students a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum, including full entitlement to the National Curriculum. Each pupil has their own Individual Education Plan (IEP).The school has a strong commitment to inclusion and personalised learning and a determination to ensure that the aims of Every Child Matters are upheld.
The central philosophy of the school is that "Education is the art of encouragement and the love of learning". This philosophy permeates through all the work we do.
