Welcome to Keswick School
Welcome to Keswick School. I hope our website conveys a sense of our rich, happy, purposeful community and the passion we have for learning. We share an ambition to be the best we can be. This happens through working in partnership, encouraging pupils to take risks, seeing failure as essential for success and developing confidence and resilience. It is what we want for our own children and is reflected in our school motto Levavi oculos.
Keswick School is a co-educational day and boarding school. We invest time in developing positive relationships. These are revealed in personal qualities such as consideration, service and endeavour. Visitors are struck by the disciplined yet caring atmosphere and pupils who are mature, respectful and tolerant.
We value academic achievement, encourage excellence but appreciate that other qualities are equally likely to lead to success later in life. Our pupils broaden their horizons through the wide range of extra-curricular activities that run every lunchtime and evening, from chess, young engineers and horse riding to astronomy, rock climbing and journalism.
Keswick School is a special place. The history and traditions of the school are most evident in our pupils. They enjoy being here and are extremely proud of the school they belong to. If your values and aspirations match ours then you would be welcome to join us.

Keswick School Sixth Form is an exciting and quite unique place to study: our community is enriched by its range of students and all of them are proud to be part of it. We welcome applications from students currently at Keswick and from students currently studying in other schools and colleges.
We place immense value on academic achievement, encouraging each and every student to do his or her best. Teaching is excellent. It is delivered by enthusiastic specialists who thoroughly enjoy teaching sixth-formers and strive to see them succeed. Most of our students go on to study at degree level, often in the selective universities of the Russell Group; others are supported in their aspirations to achieve apprenticeships or employment.
As well as this we are keen to support the wider development of the individual through a range of other activities, sporting, cultural and community-based, which enhance the transferable skills universities and employers are so keen to see in young applicants. We strive to produce young people who have succeeded academically, are excellent independent learners and who are confident, aspirational and mature.
The pastoral team in the Sixth Form is dedicated, offering superb guidance to students as they learn. I feel privileged as a teacher and as Head of Sixth Form to work in such a thriving and inspiring educational environment. We hope the information on our website is useful and you can download the most recent prospectus using the link below: please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss moving into Keswick School Sixth Form.
Head of Sixth Form
We have a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre. This gives the students work spaces which are separate from the main school. The study areas are Wi-Fi enabled. These areas are permanently staffed by the Sixth Form Learning Supervisors, who support students with their private independent study. The students also have a social area in the Sixth Form Centre. Sixth Form students have their own dining area, the Sixth Form Café, which is exclusive to their use during breaks and at lunchtime.
The Head of Sixth Form and Heads of Year have permanent offices in this building and are readily available.
The school offers excellent learning facilities in all subjects, including dedicated IT suites, Wi-Fi and an award-winning library, staffed by a professional librarian. In 2015 a new suite of classrooms, a new and versatile learning space for drama and dance, and a state of the art additional science lab funded by the GSA Trust were opened.
There is a sports hall, a gym, a climbing wall and a range of outdoor pitches offering first-rate recreational opportunities.
Keswick School is committed to providing a strong and supportive system of pastoral care. We aim to provide the guidance, support and direction which will enable the students gradually to assume more responsibility for their own learning and conduct and so leave for higher education or the world of work as independent, confident and effective young people.
Each student is allocated to a tutor group of about 25 students and remains with the same tutor throughout his/her time in the Sixth Form. The Head of Sixth Form is responsible for the overall pastoral care of the students, supported by the Heads of Year who take immediate charge of alternate year groups. Each form has an experienced Form Head (tutor) who works closely with students on a day to day basis.
Staff work hard to establish a good relationship with each student and the Sixth Formers are encouraged to express their views on all issues.
"Care, guidance and support in the Sixth Form are outstanding. Students flourish in an environment that encourages them to aim high. Students are full of praise for the support and guidance they receive to help them formulate their plans for the future."
