Welcome to Netherhall School

My name is Mr Tromans and welcome to our website. This is a welcoming, friendly, vibrant and happy school, where staff and students are treated with care and respect. I believe the school’s values and ethos are indicative of the Cumbrian spirit and represent the best of Maryport and West Cumbria.

The success of the school is built on positive relationships. I see this on a daily basis: dedicated staff and committed students who have positive and constructive relationships, the result is happy and confident learners who are inspired and achieve well.

The school’s aim is to support the development of healthy, confident, capable and happy young people, who are supportive and tolerant of each other; a school that builds understanding and recognises individuality, whilst embracing collective responsibility.

We aim to make school an enjoyable and productive experience for every child, where every young person looks forward to the possibilities of each day with energy and enthusiasm.

The five principles that guide Netherhall School are:

  • Students First – students’ best interests are at the centre of all our decisions.
  • Aspiration – to be fiercely ambitious for all our students.
  • Quality – to provide high-quality learning opportunities.
  • Opportunity – to enrich student’s learning.
  • Community – to play an active role in the community.

If you are a parent, student or a visitor and have any questions, hopefully you’ll find the answers on our website. It contains general information, latest news, details of events, parents’ evenings, policy documents, and other important information about attendance, behaviour, homework and extra-curricular activities.

If you require any further information, please contact the school’s main reception.

    • Welcome to the new edition of the Sixth Form Prospectus.  It contains all the information you will need to plan for your future success.

Increasingly, education throughout the ages of 14-19 and beyond to Higher Education is the norm and the need for students to have a broad range of qualifications and skills continues to grow, particularly the ability to be flexible and to learn from new ideas and adapt to new technologies.  Personal skills such as initiative, teamwork and citizenship will also be much in demand.  As you would expect from a Sports College, we emphasise the importance of being fit to learn and the impact that healthy, active lifestyles have on achievement in all walks of life and all aspects of learning.

This prospectus provides the full details of our Sixth Form provision.  We also provide a broad range of other opportunities including tutorial time, Sporting and Extra-Curricular Activities.  Most importantly, we offer a learning environment in which each student is well-known and supported.

The most important thing for you, our students, and your parents is to have all the information you need to plan for the post-16 phase of your education.  This prospectus will answer many of your questions.  Teachers, Connexions Advisers, Mentors, family and friends will also be important in helping you to make the choices that are right for you.  There will be an opportunity to meet individually with one of the Senior Team involved in the Sixth Form induction.

Make sure you get all the help you need as you move forward to the next exciting stage in your life.
