Welcome to William Howard School
May I welcome you to William Howard School, where we strive every day to challenge our students and staff to live by the schools core values: “Resilience, Responsibility, Respect”. We have a clear expectation that every student will strive to be the best that they can be in all that they do. This extends to all within the school community and you will find that staff and students work together to achieve the very best outcomes.
We are without question a successful school with excellent outcomes achieved at every level by students across the full ability range. Our students excel across the curriculum and we aim for everyone to have the qualifications they need individually to access their chosen progression routes be that an Apprenticeship, College, or University; an ever increasing proportion gaining entry into Oxbridge or Russell Group Universities.
That success comes from never lowering our high expectations and ensuring everyone shares our core values in each and every moment of every day. It is our insistence on only the highest standards of effort, work, uniform and behaviour that this is based on. That is only achievable by working in partnership with our parents as it is together that we enable our students to flourish into what they each have the potential to be.
In an ever demanding world of work and opportunities we believe that students need to be equipped with not only the very best qualifications, but they also need to be supported and encouraged to become caring, engaging and responsible members of society. To that end we provide the opportunities that bind all the strands of learning together into life changing experiences, supporting the development of each students’ individual character. Whether it is taking part in the Tanzanian Link, being part of a Duke of Edinburgh expedition or representing their House in the Swimming Gala, those experiences provide the richness of challenge that is at the heart of William Howard School.
We do nevertheless recognise the importance of being self-critical and we will continue to focus on working towards and maintaining outstanding outcomes in all areas, while never losing the focus on the wider enrichment and experiences of our students. Our ultimate aim is to be truly exceptional in all areas, so that every individual student has the very best start in life so that they can be responsible, resilient and respectful, while striving relentlessly to be the best that they can be.
As Headteacher of William Howard I am proud of our students, staff and their current, past and future achievements. I would encourage you to visit us to see just what a vibrant, successful learning community we are.
Mr Chris McAree, Headteacher
This is a great time to be part of our dynamic Sixth Form. Our outstanding curriculum, alongside our well-developed enrichment programme provides young people with an excellent opportunity to maximise their achievement and personal development.
The ethos of the Sixth Form is about maximising achievement through respect, responsibility and resilience, enabling students to get the most out of the outstanding resources available at William Howard School.
Our Sixth Form centre has excellent facilities for private and collaborative study as well as its own café. We pride ourselves on the support available to Sixth Form students throughout their time with us, particularly the growing number of young people joining from other schools in the area.
