Welcome to Olchfa School

I am really pleased to be able to introduce Olchfa Sixth Form to you. We are incredibly proud of our Sixth Form here. It is large and vibrant, with students studying a very wide range of courses. It provides challenge, support, progression and opportunity in an inclusive environment where we place huge value on the relaxed yet respectful relationships that are built between students and between students and staff. the whole experience is very ‘grown up’.

We are obviously proud of our strong record of exam success and we attempt to build on that year by year. However, it is all the other things that help to shape the Sixth Form experience here: the sporting and cultural activities, the extra-curricular

opportunities, the personal guidance and support and the friendships formed along the way. These are the things that help make what we offer unique.

We have worked hard to achieve a balance between independence and freedom on the one hand, and responsibility and rigour on the other. We respect Sixth Formers in every way as young adults. In return, we expect you to have high aspirations for yourselves. We will support you in your goals. We will challenge you if you are letting yourself down.

Part of the Sixth Form experience in this very large school is to offer leadership and example to all the other pupils at the school. There are many ways you can do this, including by being a prefect, buddy or mentor. In addition, you can serve the community outside school or develop your own interests via schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

It has never been more important to get a good start in life. The world is changing rapidly and career opportunities get tougher and tougher as the years go by. To succeed in this challenging world you will need a flexible skill set, courage, resilience, stamina and the right academic profile. Nearly all of our students go on to

higher education in a wide range of institutions studying an equally wide range of courses. Olchfa Sixth Form prepares and supports students for that journey.

I hope you join us here at Olchfa. It is a good place to be.

With best wishes
