Welcome to The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

The Westwood School is a school with superb modern facilities located in magnificent surroundings adjacent to the renowned University of Warwick and the flourishing Westwood Business and Science Parks.

In October 2008 we achieved Trust Status with Warwick University, Trinity Expert Systems, Coventry Sports' Foundation and Coventry City Council as Trustees. Their support will be crucial to our planned programme of further rapid progress. We will be the first school in the city to be totally refurbished and partially rebuilt under the Government's ‘Building Schools for the Future' programme. The building is due to start in 2010.

We want all pupils to achieve their best so we believe firmly in providing a stimulating, encouraging and happy atmosphere where they can benefit from the highest possible academic standards.

As staff we are committed to working in partnership with parents, pupils and our community. As an integral part of that partnership pupils will have the opportunity to take advantage of the numerous extra-curricular activities offered during breaks and after school by joining clubs in the Library, the P.E. area, Study Club, Art Club, using the Internet Café and many more.

About us

The Westwood School's record of achievement in the Sixth Form is an excellent one and this is a very exciting time to join our Sixth Form. We have increasing numbers of students choosing to continue their education with us. We offer a wide range of subjects and have the ability to access courses across the South West Federation of schools.

The benefits of returning to Post-16 Education at The Westwood School are enormous. Our status as a technology college and close partnerships with our trustees is enabling strong and growing links with local business and Warwick University.

Students benefit from a carefully devised personal, social and tutorial programme and we have developed a wide ranging enrichment curriculum.

Students also benefit from partnership with the Coventry Federation of Sixth Forms and are able to choose from a wide range of vocational and academic courses.

Our refurbished Library is now allocated entirely as a Post-16 Study Area with 21st century facilities. We provide an excellent student-centred service to all our students and there is careful guidance on Higher Education choices and information on future careers provided by our highly experienced Post-16 team supported by the Connexions service and Aim Higher Mentors.

We are confident that we can give our Post-16 students the best possible support in their education. We are committed to supporting each student  through careful action planning, target setting, regular Progress Reviews and a continual programme of individual student tutorials. We look forward to welcoming you into the lower Sixth.
