Welcome to Painsley Catholic College - a Specialist Science, Maths & Computing College
Painsley Catholic College is a unique 11-19 school which reflects the very best of educational institutions. This year the College is celebrating yet another record-breaking set of GCSE results. All targets were exceeded and, for the first time in its history, 100% of the Year 11 students achieved 5 A*-C grades – a wonderful result.
The government benchmark figure of 5 A*-C including English and maths, which is now the key government measure of a school’s level of success, was an outstanding 82% which places Painsley as the top performing state school in the whole of Staffordshire and one of the highest achieving schools in the country. Mr Stephen Bell, Principal at the College, said, “I am delighted that each and every child achieved their potential. The results reflect the efforts of the students, the staff, parents and governors. We are proud of the responsible attitude that students adopt towards their studies. The results secure the College’s reputation as a centre of excellence where children are happy and successful in a caring, studious and disciplined environment.”
Painsley has achieved many successes over the course of the last year including an OFSTED inspection which rated the College ‘outstanding’ in all areas. During the rigorous inspection, staff and students were interviewed, work was scrutinised and lessons observed.
Her Majesty’s Inspector, Davinder Dosanjh, found achievement, quality of teaching, quality of the curriculum and effectiveness of leadership and management to all be outstanding. The report, which focused on personal, social, health and economic education, commended the students by describing their personal development as, ‘exceptional’. Teachers are recognised for lessons which are ‘consistently well planned’ and, as a result, ‘students are keen to learn and participate which leads to outstanding behaviour’. Ms Dosanjh was particularly impressed with the ‘exciting experiences’ which the students receive at the College. She also commented, ‘the track record of evaluation and improvement planning is strong, leading to outstanding academic and personal achievement.’
The College is equally passionate about sport, music, art and drama; a point reflected in the fact that Painsley students are County Champions in many sports and are able to experience a multitude of extra-curricular activities. The College also has an enviable reputation in the creative arts. Indeed, Painsley attained the prestigious Arts Mark Gold during the last academic year for its outstanding work in art, music and drama. Mrs Thorn, the head of Creative Arts, is a winner of Classic FM’s teacher of the year – a point which highlights the extensive opportunities on offer in this area of the College. Mrs Thorn is not the only teacher to have received such an award, reflecting the dedication, passion and ability of the staff at the College.
Painsley epitomises the government’s aim to provide top quality state-funded education which is too often equated to fee-paying schools. Parents interested in sending their child to the high-achieving college have an increased chance of securing a place following an increase in its admission number.
