Welcome to Lytchett Minster School
I am delighted to introduce you to our outstanding Sixth Form. As a positive and friendly Sixth Form, we offer a first class post-16 experience in an inspirational environment.
We are very proud of the academic provision and pastoral support on offer at Lytchett, which provides each student with every possible chance of fulfilling their academic potential. We are passionate about raising the aspirations of our students by setting challenging targets, insisting upon high standards of work and ensuring that all students are fully committed to the courses that they undertake.
Our varied programme of enrichment provides all students with opportunities for personal development alongside their academic programme of study, thus preparing all students for life beyond Lytchett. In addition, our active Senior Team provides a student voice in ensuring that the Lytchett Sixth Form evolves as a team.
We very much look forward to meeting you.
Mr A Hannaford, Head of Sixth Form
When you are deciding where and what to study beyond the age of 16, you will definitely want to make the right choices. After all, your future depends upon it!
Whether you achieve A* and A grades at GCSE, grades D to E, or grades somewhere in between, there will almost certainly be courses to suit you in the Lytchett Sixth Form. You will also have the opportunity to study in a unique environment, knowing that you will have the very best chances of success. If you make the commitment to work hard and get involved, you will reap the rewards of your efforts. We are proud of our students’ achievements, unapologetic about the high standards we set for them and delighted with the affection they have for their school.
All students who apply to the Sixth Form have a guidance interview so you will have the chance to ask questions and seek further advice about whether the options you have chosen are the right ones for you. If you have a particular career in mind, make sure you research at an early stage which are the best subjects to study.
It is important that you should have some aptitude for the subjects you take but you should also consider whether you have sufficient interest to work on them independently and, of course, whether they are going to be of use to you in the future.

Housed in a state of the art building called the Student Support Centre (SSC), the SEND team is led by our dedicated SENDCO, and ably supported by an ELSA trained teaching assistant, literacy support leader, literacy and numeracy intervention teachers, and a team of teaching assistants who provide in-class support.
Year on year, Lytchett students achieve excellent A Level and BTEC results. Many progress to Britain’s most prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, London, Durham, Warwick and Bristol. Our students have also secured places on some of the most competitive courses – law, medicine, computer animation, engineering and veterinary science to name but a few.
Some students prefer to spend a gap year travelling or working abroad – students have undertaken voluntary work in Sri Lanka, China, Zambia, South America and the Caribbean. One student even joined an expedition to the Antarctic!
Those who prefer to find employment with training have progressed to apprenticeships in accounting, engineering, administration and catering. We are always delighted that so many of our former students keep us up to date with their post-Lytchett achievements and activities
